Monolaurin has antibacterial, antiviral, and other antimicrobial effects in vitro.[6][7][8] It may therefore be useful in the treatment or prevention of various infections, but its clinical usefulness has not been established.

Monolaurin is currently sold as a dietary supplement under various brands, generally under the category of digestive and immune system support.

Monolaurin is believed to inactivate lipid-coated viruses by binding to the lipid-protein envelope of the virus, thereby preventing it from attaching and entering host cells, making infection and replication impossible.[9] Other studies show that Monolaurin disintegrates the protective viral envelope, killing the virus.[10][11] Monolaurin has been studied to inactivate many pathogens including Herpes simplex virus[12] and Chlamydia trachomatis.[13]

Monolaurin also shows promising effects against bacteria (both gram-positive and gram-negative), yeast, fungi, and protozoa. Bacteria including E. Coli,[14] yeast including Candida alibcans,[15] Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori),[16] Giardia lamblia,[17] Staphylococcus aureus (Staph),[18] and other microbials have all been neutralized by monolaurin in scientific studies. Monolaurin also presented antibacterial and anti-biofilm properties against Borrelia burgdorferi and Borrelia garinii, the bacterium which cause Lyme Disease in humans. [19]

I just ordered some after seeing 1000Daisies' post on the supplements that helped her child with viruses. I've got herpes viruses and have had shingles twice in the last year. I'm hoping monolaurin will help me out. I'll have to be careful though. Sounds like a herx.

I've been wondering and reading occasionally on the difference between monolaurin and coconut oil - researchers love to take a single compound out of something and focus just on that when the whole food/herb have various useful parts. I've taken coconut oil for a long time and I'd be interested to hear if anyone noticed a difference by switching to monolaurin after using coconut oil.

Do you already consume coconut oil WalkingByFaith? I'd love to hear your thoughts on switching to monolaurin after a bit.

I do eat a little most days, especially if I'm not eating fat when taking my fat soluble supplements, but I probably eat a teaspoon or less.

You're right about scientists doing that. In the case of coconut, though, you couldn't consume large amounts without suffering from high cholesterol or something similar, though. When they extract constituents it's usually in far higher amounts than you'd ever get naturally.

I have not taken caprylic acid supplements which is also coconut derived.

I didn't even know monolaurin had anything to do with coconuts until I ordered it. I also didn't know Lauracidin and monolaurin were the same thing. Apparently Lauracidin was the first brand to come out.

Did you get the hives? What brand/type do you use?

I got mine from Beneficial Botanicals, which is fresh dense roots at a 1:2 ratio.

I don't recall the tincture brand, but I know didn't get hives. I was on an anti-viral kick a few years ago and was looking to reduce EBV, HHV-6 and Coxsacke tests were high. Ackually I used Lomatium first forabout six months then went to monolaurin and stopped after one bottle.

I've been eating lots of coconut oil. I do worry about the cholesterol/ sat fat situation. There is a major debate and little in the way of studies or data. Mostly just expert opinion.

It is the American Dietary Association spreading the cocnut oil=heart disease warnings.
These are the same people that say your diet should be grain based... Eat all the carbs you want and limit fat... I think they have been proven wrong a long long time ago, but for reasons unknown they continue to promote the carb/grain based diet...

who else do we know behaves like this?

I am doing my own n=1 anecdote / experiment by eating 1 tablespoon of coconut oil twice a day. I will be checking my triglycerides and cholesterol along the way.

So far I have been through 3 jars lol.

My LLMD loves Monolaurin and has started to recommend it. I’ve definitely herxed on it and I’m only up to 7 pellets x2.

I have been taking monolaurin (lauriciden) since January, 1 scoop twice a day. was curious about cholesterol levels with that too, will get them checked probably in June. took me a while to get up to scoop, there are like 80 pellets in a scoop.

Folks look into BHT also this and monolaurin are both biofilm busters and antivirals and antibacterial. Tired of being sick and i am researching how to heal me. Will post as i find things to help us all try to get better. If posted before sorry judt learning

Hi WBF.

For the kid that was I previously referring to on the other thread, he used capsules (Ecological Formulas Monolaurin). He has not done the pellets.

I did order the Lauricidin for the rest of us later at some point. The rest of us tried the pellets, and honestly, at the time, none of us seemed to react much to it. Perhaps we didn't go high enough, not sure.

The advantage of the pellets is that if you are very reactive to monolaurin, you can go up much slower and with more flexiblity.

Will do! Thanks. I saw two strengths and ordered the lower strength of the capsules. But, yeah, opening the capsule and taking a smaller amount is probably a good idea.

I started in February with 1 pellet a day and now I'm up to 15 every 3 hours stating at 6:00am. So 65-80 pellets a day and the last week or so I've become almost symptom free. I also take a few other herbs but monolaurin has made a huge difference for me so far. It took a month or so to push through the initial herx feelings but I actually have a few pre lyme pains that have seems to cleared up along the way. I hope it continues! Good luck!

That's amazing! I'm curious about what you're doing. You said you're taking a few herbs. Are you taking abx now or no? Did you already get through treatment and this monolaurin is the icing on the cake or a what?

I'm asking because I keep hearing that monolaurin is a biofilm buster. If that's true, wouldn't you have to be on some kind of herbal or pharma abx to kill the bacteria that gets released, or is the monolaurin itself killing what gets released?

I got bit in sept 2017 took doxy for 4 weeks one month after the bite. I was ok for a few weeks then I took an antibiotic for a secondary infection and I started colloidal silver during that week.

I was doing apple cider, cats claw, oregano, silver and olive leaf for a few weeks. Started feb 11 with monolaurin only and it was rough but I had already herxed through some symptoms during previous protocol.

I alternate olive leaf and oregano every other day. I use colloidal silver, pinch of borax in water and apple cider here and there, but the monolaurin is the bread and butter. I have to say, I feel better every week.

I just keep a bag of pellets in my pocket and take it on hours that are a multiples of 3. 6:00, 9:00, 12:00, 3:00, 6:00, maybe 9:00. I only took 2 different abx for a total of less than 5 weeks and neither helped much. No diet changes yet

I think the monolaurin kills bacteria and biofilm, just my feeling though. It just takes time.

Anybody know how many milligrams are in a pellet?

I got the Ecological Formulas capsules. Each capsule has 300 mg monolaurin and 7.5 mg Inosine.

I've never heard of Inosine. Anybody know what that is and what it does?

one scoop is 3000mg of monolaurin, given there are about 80 pellets in a scoop, one pellet would be ~37.5mg.

yeah, i have been doing antibiotics, oil of oregano, monolaurin daily since January, no silver bullet for me yet. from january/february i was ramping up to two scoops, then March and April i have been at two scoops, so 6000mg daily. i usually take the monolaurin and oil of oregano with antibiotics.

Yes, around 30+ grams per pellet. It's cheaper to get pellets than capsules. I get the big tub from inspired nutrition on amazon and not the lauricidin brand.

The inspired nutrition brand is cheaper and it has some of the other acids that are in coconut oil, which might make it more effective than lauricidin. I'm not sure because I haven't tried the lauricidin brand.

Some people seem to have trouble digesting the pellets. You might try taking them with food to slow down digestion. Also some people chew or crush them to aid in absorption although you will taste them for awhile afterward.

I tried chewing 1 pellet and swallowing the rest of my 15 pellet dose and it gave me a pretty intense herx. It supposedly lets it get directly into your blood stream if you dissolve it in your mouth and I would agree with that based on my experience.

Also, you might try smaller doses spread through the day instead of a teaspoon scoop all at one time. I originally did it every 3 hours to avoid a huge herx but I have gotten used to it so I've stuck with it.

i never really herxed from the laurincidin, though i haven't really herxed in general since starting treatment. i suspect i may be one of those "lucky" people that dont herx, or dont herx strongly. i may try the Insprired nutrition brand, i wonder if I can transition straight over to that. i may try a quarter scoop mixed with laurcidin.

in the inspired nutrition site, ingredient section it says that it has colloidal silver in it. do you know how much is in there?

Inosine is popular in CFS circles as an OTC anti-viral.

I use a lot of coconut oil. I'd say about 3 tbs per day or so. In my bullet-proof coffee and to cook with and sometimes full cream coconut milk for shakes. I've been eating that way (more or less) for more than 5 years.

My cholesterol and other bloodwork is perfect. Yeah, according to my labs I'm in totally perfect health.

I think they sell several different products but the monolaurin that I have doesn't have any colloidal silver in it. Here is a link to the stuff I get.
