Changing this question a bit ...
While I was away on Saturday (two days ago), my husband pulled a tick off of our 5-year-old. He bungled the removal, broke off the head, and lost the tick, so we can't get it tested. No rash or other symptoms currently.
I'm in the better safe than sorry camp and want to treat just in case. He doesn't want to treat "on a whim." What do YOU do for your family?
ILADS guidelines I believe are treating prophylactically for 20 days. For a child I guess that would mean three weeks of amoxicillin?
I made an appointment with our PCP for this afternoon. I will ask for a prescript
ion, but how hard should I fight?
Also, he's been bitten before. Let's say this tick wasn't infected but he has Lyme lurking in his body from before. Could treating stir that up and cause trouble?
