colds and immune system recovery?

So I came down with the first cold I've had in two years (nearly 5 years infected). I know this has been discussed before but I'm taking it as a good sign that my immune system is finally recovering and reaching a minimum threshold again.

Wondering if anyone can comment on whether this turned out to be way point in their recovery or just another of many false hopes smile

I thought the same thing, I was happy I had a cold. Amused even at the normalcy of being sick with the common cold I got from my 3 year old.

Then, after 4 weeks of coughing and runny noses, it turned into a sinus infection treated with antibiotics and quickly cleared up. Right when the cold turned into an infection, Bartonella symptoms returned, so what I thought was a good sign for my immune system I feel may have opened the door for a return of old symptoms. Or it threw off my homeostasis?

Prior to the cold (and even during) I was thinking of tapering off Buhner herbs as I was feeling great, now I find I'm adding some to try and knock out these symptoms.

So, if it's a turning point, it doesn't feel that way now. Hopefully others have different, more favorable experiences/outcomes!

I can tell you several years ago before getting into remission for awhile I has an ear infection also treated with antiobiotics and after that things got better.

Of course, I also feel that (superstitiously) posting on here that I was doing better also jinxed things. Every time I do during a stretch of mostly to all symptom free (be it 2 weeks or a month) I immediately have a not as good stretch. So maybe it was that and not the infection!

I know people have said that when we get symptoms of colds/flu viruses that it means our immune system is functioning again.

That has never made sense to me.

If that was the case, then why are the elderly susceptible to getting very sick and even death when they have flu symptoms - we know they generally have a low immune function.
In their case symptoms don’t equate with healthy immune function.

It still baffles me that over the last 5+ years everyone around me has had colds and flu. from the typical office cold that goes from person to person every year, to the colds and flu that my everyone in my family has. I can't remember the last time i had a cold or flu.

Girlie -It doesn't make sense to me really but I sort of understand (IMO) that the symptoms of a cold/flu are the result of your immune system functioning to kill off the thing in your blood stream. I see it as, healthy people get sick, get symptoms as the immune system works, and the toxins are eliminated. For those with any of the 3B's we don't have the immediate immune response because our healing cells don't see the 3B bacteria. Some get the "flu-like symptoms" but the bacteria or whatever start to go into the tissue or joints immediately and are mostly out of the blood.

Also, in my uneducated opinion...if the bacteria are no longer in our blood stream, it takes a different type of treatment to bring them out so that the medicine can help kill them. I don't think we have an immune resonse then either, its just the med and the die-off that causes the symptoms or herx. As the detox process goes on and treatment continues the immune reorganization helps the immune system start working again. unfortunately we can have permanent damage, or if reinfected it starts the whole process over.

Seriously, that is just my uneducated opinion just based on what I had read and watched when I first learned I had the disease. I could be completely wrong.

But how do you explain why the elderly get so sick and sometimes even parish from the flu - if indeed they are getting symptoms because their immune system is strong?

I also haven’t been sick with cold or flu for over 5 years.

I’m wondering if we have an exaggerated immune function - maybe a type of autoimmune - that takes care of the cold and flu viruses

Did you also get a fever?
Or is the lyme preventing the immune system from producing a fever?

This past winter season was a disaster for me in terms of colds. I was sick every 2 or 3 weeks. I remember after Christmas I was coughing so much that even my coworkers noticed it and suggested I go to the doctor. I even googled when I got my lyme diagnosis if people with Lyme get sick often. And that's how I ended up on this forum. The thread that I read stated that lyme people do not in fact sick easily. It got me very depressed by the way
