Malarone atovaquone question

Just curious about what all think about atovaquone. Does it cross the blood brain barrier? What are your thoughts?

From what I've read - it doesn't.

But, why do I get head 'effects' from taking it then?

Increase in head pressure?

Now that you mention head pressure. After 10 days on zithromax + malarone. Today i started to feel a pain on the left side of my chest. Near the heart. SIDE effect of zithromax malarone or herx? Do you still take malarone?

I had some pain in same area for several days in a row.


If yours doesn’t go away - maybe get it checked
Zithromax has the black box warning of Long QT syndrome - which has to do with the electrical function/rhythm of the heart.

But I don’t know if it presents with pain

No - I had pain in that area more recently - I was on Zithromax a few years ago.

Nope, not on biaxin either.


I'm pulsing Mepron, minocycline, Ceftin, Bactrim. Plus Flagyl two days per month.

Today i had to go to ER. After lunch took my azithromycin and malarone, after One hour or so i started to feel lightheadness like i would faint and my eart started to beat realy strong and fast. They mande blood, urine and ecg tests. Had palpitatuons detetcted and my leukocyte count was high on urine. Doc said i have a urinary infection. But how can this be? I am taking azithromycin. Doc said resistance and zithromax not for urinary infections. Prescribed me amoxicilin for that and stop azithromycin due to heart? What now? I am gonna trhrow away all my abx fight i am doomed help

Isitlyme - you don’t need to take Azithromycin - there are other abx

What explains the urine infection any idea? I am scared that amoxicilin interferes with my oxazepam.
