I am hoping that someone here has had cavitation surgery and can tell me what to expect.
Here is my teeth story.
I did not have any issues with my teeth or mouth in the 10 years I had lyme except the last year. Suddenly everything exploded and i had pain. My dentist said the pain could be possibly nerve related so to just let it be if I could and see if it went away on its own. (she said that she saw nothing wrong)
So the tooth that was bugging me had a crown but not a root canal. She felt if it was that tooth that was bugging me she would need to take the crown off to look at it and at that point it would need a root canal just by taking off the crown.
So after a year, she sends me to an endodontist who says no its not that tooth but the one behind it (they are the last two molars on the bottom). He talks me into a root canal on that tooth, even though I bring up my concerns about lyme and root canals.
I get it done and then mention to my lyme dr that I got a root canal and she was like noooooo! Get it pulled.
In the meantime, I still have pain in that whole area and I am not comfortable anymore with dentists who do not understand lyme. I finally found a biological dds who did a cone scan and saw him yesterday.
Here is his recommendations and findings:
1. the crown tooth needs the crown to come off. He feels it is an old crown and something isn't right under there. Decay from a bad seal on the crown or even an infection. He will attempt to fix it and put a new crown back on, but it may need to be pulled if it is not salvageable. No root canal he says.
2. The tooth that I just had a root canal on last month needs to be pulled. ugh. the expense only to have it go anyway.
3. then, the cone scan showed I have a cavitation on that same side from where a wisdom tooth was pulled. It doesn't look good, so he feels it needs to be cleaned out and rehealed or I will continue to suffer from lyme symptoms. On a side note, I had 4 boney impacted wisdom teeth pulled at the time due to an infection in one. Funny enough, the one that was infected is the one with the cavitation. All the others look like normal bone on the scan as does 4 teeth I had pulled as a young teen to make room to adjust for braces. So just the infected one was the area that shows a large cavitation.
So my question is if you had a cavitation surgery done, were you on your lyme treatment at the time or did you need to take a break. I am back on babesia treatment again starting monday, after not finishing bart treatment. I plan on getting the crown done next month after a vacation I am taking and then do the cavitation surgery in september.
I will chat with my lyme dr when i see her next but thats not for 3 months, so i am just curious about opinions on what will happen or what I should expect to happen or even the best way to proceed with antibiotics, when to take them. I feel nervous to not be taking them when I have the procedure.
And...if you had cavitation surgery did you feel better lyme wise, meaning did it help you go into remission?
One more thing...what was the surgery like? I expect it will be done in the dentists office which scares the crap out of me since I had the original wisdom tooth pulled in the hospital under general anesthesia. I am also going to be getting the root canal pulled at the same time since they are next to each other. I am not afraid of the dentist or having it done...i am nervous about after. It took me a whole month to have my mouth calm down to my normal level of pain after the simple root canal.
One would think that after all the pain and stuff I (and all lymies really) deal with for so many darn years that I would be tough as nails, but I find that my body is just worn down from all this and now I fear pain.
Thanks guys
