astragalus for acute lyme

I was looking around on the Buhner's website. For new tick bites he suggests taking astragalus 3000 mg daily for 30 days then 1000 mg after that. My tick bite isn't "new" but I believe I am still considered an acute case. Should I start with 3000 Astragalus? On another part of his website he recommends a max dose of 1000 mg so I'm a bit confused. Any downsides to trying this and will it conflict with my doxycycline?

personally i think it pretty irresponsible of buhner to just use a immune booster for acute lyme ...glad u got doxy but really it doesn't cover gram negative or protozoan infections...unless you have auto immune components to your symptomology ,sure take astralgus and or echinacia but i have seen spirochetes invade and replicate in white blood cells sooooo ..i do not believe the human immune system can fight this super bug

if i knew then what i know now....i would have gotten on clinical doses of andrographis , oil of oregano, artmesia annua and houttynia with allicin pills; and other modalities like rife and bvt

I would consider taking it as long as you don't have any adverse side effects or increase in any symptoms.

I started taking it after 16 months of treatment, I slowly introduced it and I now take 1000 mg a day.

For me , I believe it is a piece of the immune building puzzle I am trying to accomplish.

There is just a warning for chronic Lyme that it could possibly increase symptoms.

I didn't experience this.

Buhner does not recommend Astragalus for chronic cases of Lyme due to risk of severe herx. It is recommended in the core protocol for new bites, and for prevention in well folks or for Lymies in remission.

I took it a few years back as a challenge test to better gauge my Lyme infection load vs my Bart co-infection. I did fine and remain taking it at 1000 mg per day for prevention. I did get another tick bite two years ago and increased does to 3000 mg per day for 30 days as he recommended.

Start real slow.

Buhner says with chronic Lyme it can cause an autoimmune type response

“If you are not currently sick, you can certainly take astragalus. The reason for not recommending it is that astragalus raises the parts of the immune system that are overactivated in chronic lyme. Those parts of the immune system are highly effective against lyme early on and help prevent or reduce the disease but if they are low to begin with and you are infected the infection can spread more easily. After awhile the immune system does ratchet up those parts to attack the lyme bacteria but by then the spirochete has altered itself and is no longer very affected by them, those parts of the immune system then begin to cause some of the lyme symptoms people have making the disease a kind of autoimmune problem. My book Healing Lyme goes into this in a great amount of detail.”
