Meibomian Gland (eyelid) infections

One symptom I have had repeatedly is eyelid infections from clogged oil glands, which is called the Meibomian Gland.

I had 4 infections from Aug - Dec 2015 and 2 more between Jan - Apr 2016. I had at least 1 last year. I now have infection #8 or 9.

This is the worst one. Started Augmentin last night. I have swelling and heat in the eyelid and also in other parts of my face and had some numbness in my face, pressure in my sinuses and my ear on that side. The infection looks and feels systemic.

The Augmentin hasn't had any noticeable affect. I just took the 4th dose 2 hours ago. I'm getting worried.

Has anyone else had these kind of eyelid infections?

It could take longer for the augmentin to do the job.


In 2016 I had a bad cat bite on my right arm that got infected - swelling and red.
I was given augmentin and 24 hours later it had stopped ‘growing’ but hadn’t significantly gotten any smaller - took another 24 for that to happen.

Thanks for asking.

It does finally look slightly better today. Still have blurred vision and swelling in eyelid and face. Called Dr. office to report lack of progress. Doc not in today. I'll call again tomorrow if I don't see further improvement.

I was worried. First of these infections I had 3 years ago responded very quickly to Augmentin. I started thinking it could be MRSA since it wasn't getting better.

This morning I thought of something else. Maybe abx can't do much for my acute infection due to all the chronic infections I have. Is that possible?

I hope not. I don't think so.

I know Augmentin worked well for my cat bite...and at that point I still had active bart and babs going on.

This is your third day? It's looking a little better...see how it is tomorrow...and if not progressing - maybe your Dr. will change the antibiotic.
