My wife recently tested positive for Lyme (B. burgdorferi). She has been ill for 5 years. My hunch now is Lyme is the main culprit. Where should we go for help? Infectious Disease MD? Neurologist? ND who treats Lyme? General and specific recommendations are greatly appreciated. (We live in Washington state. She already took antibiotics - two years ago, prior to the positive test.)
Symptoms: (intermittent, but most days. Life is currently unbearable.)
-Head pain, sometimes severe. Recently mostly in back of head and neck. Sometimes feels like pressure.
-Hard lumps under her skin. Come and go over time. Currently has one around/under left tendon(?) that runs up back of neck to skull.
-Mental confusion. Sometimes has a hard time understanding speech. Short-term memory loss.
-Blurry vision.
-Air hunger.
-Cold/hot sensation.
-Hot skin (without having a temperature).
-Severe constipation and stomach aches.
-Lack of appetite.
-Joint pain (less common recently)
Current remedies:
=> massage helps relieve pain for the short term.
=> nutritional IV sometimes miraculously restores fairly normal brain functioning for hours, and restores breathing to normal. However, within perhaps 12 hours bad symptoms return.
=> pancreatic enzyme enables her to pass stools. Regular laxatives didn't work nearly as well.
=> cannabis (edible and topical helps with pain. Legal in Washington.)
Finances: We're also looking for suggestions on how to get treatment on limited funds. This has depleted our resources. Couldn't keep up with insurance premiums, but make too much to qualify for Medicaid. Started gofundme campaign - don't anticipate raising much that way, but very helpful short-term.
Thank you very much for your recommendations, David
