My daughter has been in the hospital for the last week. She had been having severe stomach pains and running a fever. They found she had an infection in her small intestines. She had been bitten by a tick 3 weeks ago so they done a tick panel on her and it came back positive for tularemia, the lyme part isn't back yet.

I have been fighting Lyme, Bartonella & Babesios for the last 5 years, and had never heard of tularemia.
Has anyone else had this and how did you treat it.

Gentamicin is used to treat it.

I think you get tularemia from rabbits . . The tick probably got it from a rabbit. and gave it to your daughter. I'm really not sure how you treat it.

Ticks can carry it.

I read on one site that oral abx isn’t sufficient.

“Tularaemia is treated with intramuscular streptomycin or intravenous gentamicin. Oral medications are less reliable and are not currently recommended for significant disease.”

“ Humans can acquire tularemia when they come in contact with infected animals or are bitten by insects that have fed on an infected animal. Ticks, biting flies, and mosquitoes have been shown to transmit tularemia between animals and humans. Tularemia is one of several tick-borne diseases and can be spread by many species of ticks, ..”

Its rare, but it does happen-usually in gardeners. We test for it through CDC testing program.
