nearly 7 months into treatment and im weaker then before I started

Anyone have any experience with this? I was able to be at least somewhat active. 7 months of antibiotics later, I can't do the things I was able to do before I started them. Is this bad? Anyone have any experience with this?

My LLMD says that he notices a lot of his patients immune systems are at their lowest about a year in after starting abx.

You sound like me. I got worse and worse during abx tx and developed issues due to the abx themselves. I attribute this to the abx contributing to an ongoing bout of gut dysfunction. I am currently on some herbs and a gut restoration protocol.

Good luck. Everyone is different and needs to find the best way to heal themselves.

If you get a chance, look up Dr Alejando Junger and his work on gut dysfunction.

I can't speak to the same experience, but for me 6 months into treatment and I'm significantly improved in some ways, exactly the same in some ways, and a few new symptoms have popped up as well. It's probably a net improvement, but it's like playing whack a mole. I suppose we just have to keep trying different treatments until we find something that works for us.

Have you been treating very aggressively? do you tend to herx a lot? it could be that your body is overloaded from constant pathogen die-off and isn't able to detox fast enough. Could try pulling back on therapies and seeing if that helps you feel better. If that did help it could indicate you might need to slow up pacing and aggression of treatments.

And yes, I experienced something similar, so I learned this the hard way! Pulse therapy or slow progression of therapy usually works best for me, otherwise my body becomes overwhelmed and can never dig its way out.

Ive been treating off&on since summer of 2014... the 1st 6months were THE WORST. i did pretty well the year 2015, until the fall I got reinfected. I was told not to worry since I was already on herbal lyme tincture; but well lets just say I had to pull out the big guns(so-to-speak), aka big pharma abx. I seemed to do better for 1/2 the year of 2016 after using doxycyclin. Also in 2017 I used Alinia/doxy for 3months> but then got the actual flu which made me so ill for a few months thatbI had to cease treatment. Before going back on treatment, I spent 1month on rifaximin(treat s.i.b.o), then 1month on Azithromycin, and now back on alinia/doxy, and I FEEL HORRIBLE.

Im thinking that antibiotics are the devil!

Often antibiotics alone are not enough.
Seeing a biological dds helped me the most-then treating parasites.
Also see what you can do to strengthen your body. RBTI that uses PH measures is good-getting the dental cleaned up and killing off any parasites will also make your body stronger.
Some docs dont consider dental-there is lots of good data on dental issues causing system issues.
Parasites-just yesterday on the radio I heard Mcdonalds had a parasite issue in their salad and Washinton County PA has a boil advirsory for their drinking water. Parasites are everywhere and you will be better without them

I have experienced this. For me, it happened after short treatments with abx (7 days of minocycline and 7 days of augmentin almost a year later). I was physically debilitated and had trouble walking, especially after the minocycline for 3 months. Similar scenario for 4 months after augmentin.

I just had to take augmentin again (6 mths since the last time). It's happening again. I've posted about it before, but really have no clear explanation of why and what is happening.

After some weeks to months, it improves to a point, but I've never gotten back to the level of physical ability I had before taking minocycline in Jan 2017. I never had that kind of response to abx before that, even after I was already sick from Lyme/co/mold.

I herxed extremely intensely from months 1-4. They had slightly gotten lighter and lighter as the months have gone by. I guess my main fears are that the treatment will plateau and that the herx damage that has severely weakened me will be permanent

Hi mason,

Just a tip that lyme is not an easy disease to cure for most BUT the good news is there are so many options. If antibiotics doesn't work for you, I might suggest trying a natural option; perhaps a naturopath or an herbalist?

Treatment does plateau for many and then you find a different path. Don't get disheartened! The best advice I can give you is if Plan A doesn't work....try plan B and then plan C. Your body can repair itself in time. smile Give it the best shot it has with a clean diet, detoxing, and listening to it!

I do believe permanent damage is possible, but I also honestly believe that many people misinterpret remaining symptoms as permanent damage. I suspect it is much more likely a plateau in progress that may mean a change in treatment is needed. I'm not a doctor. That's just my opinion.

This has been my experience as well. My situation is neuro based and anytime I am on antibiotics, my nerve pain in limbs and pots like symptoms increase. Plus my stomach often feels worse. Debating going off of antibiotics, because a year ago my symptoms were simply fatigue and achiness. I could work with that

Permanent herx damage seems like a rare phenomenon. Are you doing a lot of detoxing? have you tried infrared sauna? that could be something to look into, especially if your body has a toxin overload.

I also do think that whenever you plateau or get stuck it's good to rotate protocols. There are a lot of options out there. You could even take a break from abx and try an herbal protocol like Opugirl suggested. Those tend to be gentler and it's easier to titrate treatments and start slowly.
