I have cats, but I think I got bartonella before I got them (not sure though). A lot of times I regret getting them, but I've had them for ten years, and I couldn't imagine getting rid of them.
Now that they are older they don't scratch as much, but they are a pain to clean up after, because they shed fur everywhere when they are in the house (and I'm allergic to them), and they won't use their litter box.
One thing that was strange was, before I got cats I was tested for cat allergies-no allergies. Then after I got a cat (or two), I'm allergic.
They won't use their litter box? We've only had one cat that was peeing outside the litterbox...and we were told that the cat was probably wanting two letterboxes - one for pee and one for p--p.
My husband put a cat-door into our garage and we keep the litter boxes in there. He also built a mesh cage around the area so they don't have access to our entire garage and could possibly escape.
