I have a number of neurological conditions related to my Lyme (horrible short term memory, anxiety, lack of concentration, slowed thoughts, etc).
about 3 years ago I tried IV Rocephin, which I understand is the gold standard for neuro-Lyme. The doctor indicated I'd need at least 3 months (and as much as 6). However, on day 14 of the infusions, I started getting some intense cramping going up my legs and then arms. I never go to the ER, but this was some of the worst pain I've ever had, and the symptoms were appearing right as I was infusing.
The ER initially thought the PICC line was infected, and I was in sepsis (but the testing of the picc line indicated it was NOT infected). So I have no idea what happened there... If I was allergic to the Rocephin, I should have had a reaction immediately - not 14 days in.
Fast forward 3 years (and a couple more rounds of oral ABs and intramuscular injections), my neuro symptoms are worsening so I'd like to try IV treatment again.
This time, my doctor prescribed (8 weeks total):
IV Doxycycline (100 mg, bid, 3 days/wk)
IV Zithromax (500mg, bid, 3 days/wk)
I couldn't find any information on the effectiveness of these drugs intravenously versus IV Rocephin. Does anyone have any thoughts on this treatment versus IV Rocephin?
Thanks!
