Does anyone know much about blood flow / perfusion of the brain? I am dizzy / lightheaded for a lot of the time, possibly as part of Lyme et al. When I'm feeling a bit better, focusing on getting stuff done, I either don't have or don't notice the lightheadedness as much..... but that can only go on for so long (couple hours max, usually), and then when I stop and take a break, I'm even more dizzy.
My blood pressure is usually 110-120 / 60-70, sometimes 5 points lower, and the cardiologist says my heart is fine. (I'm only in my 30s.) The pressure isn't consistently lower by a lot when I'm generally dizzy, but sometimes seems a bit lower. Especially at night when I go to bed or wake up in the middle of the night.
Aaaanyway, one of my theories has been brain perfusion. I just have to lie down after a while of sitting up or exertion... the dizziness lessens. Aaaaand, very often pressing down various places on my abdomen, or even the pressure of the blood pressure cuff, provides just a bit of temporary lessening of the dizziness. It feels a bit better, or rather less bad.
So I'm trying to research this angle. Wikipedia leads me to believe there are some imaging modalities that can measure this stuff. Has anyone been in for MRI/fMRI or PET etc for CBF or rCBF (cerebral blood flow)? Anyone know much about these things?
Dr. J. (LLMD) sometimes does SPECT scans to show blood flow in the brain. He likes it because it separates the 'really bad' cases from the others. (or something like that...can't remember his exact wording)
I have had a couple mri's of my brain....but I don't think it's good for showing the blood flow.
One was looking for a cyst on my pituitary gland...and I think the other was to look for Chiari...but that's probably just the bottom of the brain at the back.
