Hey Guys,

So i belong to a lyme support group here in NJ. Wonderful people. They arranged for a well known Dr, J.D. (herbalist) to come and speak to our group.

one thing that really stuck out to me was this:

she said that through research she came to the conclusion that each band on the western blot means something... for instance band 23 means active infection, band 39 is associated with lyme and an auto immune problem, band 41 is the band that most people have show up but is always dismissed when in reality its very important, and so on...

i just thought this was really interesting. her son was sick for many many many years before they found out what it was (she passed it to him but didnt know) he was in a wheel chair from age 2-4. she and her son are well today. he went from being autistic to completely normal.

what are your thoughts on the bands??

Interesting - but haven't heard that about the bands before.

Band 23 - active infection. Not sure about that...All the lyme specific bands could represent an active infection...

Band 39 - lyme and auto immune problem - meaning the person with that band would also test positive with one of the autoimmune diseases?

Band 41 - Agree it is the one that most people with lyme have show up. It's not lyme 'specific' though, it represents the flagella of a spirochete.

That's awesome. Did she say what protocols to get them well - being a ND....I'm assuming herbals...not abx?

Also, did she mention how long it took them to get well?

I don’t believe the bands. They are just part of the bacteria, 41 is the tail, etc.

Also my husband has band 23 and does not have an active infection. No symptoms.

yes she did all herbals... it took years to get better. She mentioned a lot of buhner herbs which is what she uses im assuming

Maybe I’m not understanding the blot correctly, but I believe they take the bacteria and separate it by parts or weight. So if you respond to 41 it is the tail of a spirochete - which can be any spirochete with flagella, which is why it is required to have additional bands to increase likelihood of it being borellia. I guess if your immune system reacts more to one part it could lead to a certain symptom presentation? Seems like this would be fairly personalized. Hopefully someone with more scientific knowledge will weigh in.
