Anyone ever had high potassium?

Just had more results come back for comp panel. As usual, creatinine was high and gfr low (50). Gfr has been low for years and creatinine has been high.

For the first time, though, my potassium was high (5.5 with 5.2 high norm). Other electrolytes were normal. Concerned, as usual, about kidney disease.

I read about low potassium with Lyme, but not high.

I read that if kidneys aren’t functioning optimally - they may not eliminate the potassium from the blood.

Some medications also contribute to high potassium:
Penicillin and bactrim are two.
Azoles (Flagyl) also.
And I think blood pressure meds do.

Try cutting back on foods with potassium to help lower blood levels.

My friend’s elderly mother has had kidney disease for many years now - but it’s stable for the past few years. She was told not to eat bananas.
Her gfr is usually around 25-30

I know - I’m due to retest my kidney and liver function - I just finished the week two of dapsone/daraprim - it caused kidney function to drop the last two cycles- so I’m prepared for it again.

It bounced back the last two times - I just don’t know how many times it can take a hit without it causing permanent damage.

Sigh
