Looking for doctors in Houston/Austin/San Antonio

Hello everyone,

I am new in this forum and I am desperately seeking answers to my husbands sudden multi systemic symptoms that he has been experiencing since March of this year. His doctor had rested him for a multitude of things and they haven’t been able to put this together. Through our own research and my husbands background we believe that at some point he may have been exposed. We live in the Houston area and have done a lot of research on doctors specializing in Lyme but haven’t been able to get anywhere. We only know of one doctor located in Denton, TX. If you guys have anyone that you would recommend in the Houston, Austin, San Antonio area please let me know. I would greatly appreciate any recommendations. Thank you.

Hi OMC - welcome!
Sorry your husband has been symptomatic with no answers. Unfortunately that is a familiar story for those of us with Lyme disease.
Hopefully you will get recommendations from members here. If not...you can email me and I'll give you some names I have listed for the area you are seeking treatment.

Has your husband been tested for Lyme disease? If not, you could get him tested with Igenex - the Lyme WB IgM and IgG is $250. It takes three weeks for the results.

So, it's possible he can take the results to the first LLMD appt.

Igenex also has newer testing - IGXSpot and Lyme Immunoblot.
To get the test kit, just give them a call... you can ask them about doing the IGXSpot and Immunoblot vs the WB for lyme.
I wouldn't at this time test for the coinfections...unless you want to spend the extra $$.

Thank you for replying. I actually send you an email to your gmail account on Tuesday. My husband was tested with the Western Blot and was negative. There was a disclaimer indicating that after 3-6 weeks the antibodies decline. I definitely will look into the Igenex, is it more sensitive and specific than the western blot? Although his test was negative he has a lot of symptoms that will fit with this disease more than other diseases. His doctor has been very good at exploring different avenues, but she doesn’t specialize in this. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Okay - wasn’t sure - I sent you some options via email earlier .

Igenex does have the WB but it is a better lab for testing lyme and coinfections - as they specialize in testing for tickborne diseases.

Wait. You may not need another test. Were ANY bands positive on the Western blot? If so, which ones?

Thanks WBF - I missed saying that!

OMC - take a look at the test - and post if there are any bands +

There are certain Lyme “specific” bands - that only Lyme can trigger.
Even if the WB doesn’t meet the criteria for a positive - a lyme specific band is useful for backing up a clinical diagnosis

Girlie and WBF thank you for the response. I do remember reading that certain bands will appear even if the test is negative. Attached is the test they perform. I don’t see any bands listed. I will talk to the doctor to see if she received the raw data and ask her to send it to me. What do you guys think? Is this the correct test?

OMC - I couldn't see your pics with that link. If there are no bands listed...was it perhaps just an Elisa or IFA which is considered just a screening tool?

Girlie-Sorry for the pic. Tried repostingit but couldn’t. I send it to your email. I think they only gave the 1st page with their final results and not the page with the bands. I called he doctor and requested the rest. Will keep you posted.

Goshawk- I contacted IILAD and they provided me with three doctors. Haven’t heard from any of the other members yet. I have also contacted the Texas Lyme Association. Thank you for the suggestion.
