Anyone have experience with primaquine for babesia?

Anyone here have experience with the use of Primaquine for babesia? My daughter has had a long journey with Lyme and co-infections. She’s been on a lot of the typical prescribed and herbal meds (Mepron, co-Artem, pulsed artemisin, Buhner herbs, Byron white etc...) for babesia but can’t seem to kick it. Dr now wants to try Primaquine with artemisinin pulsed. Would love to hear others experiences with this med. what dose, how long, did it help?

It is a rather old Rx used in the past for malaria. I read in another forum a few years back that some LLMDs believe it hits dormant Bab deep in the liver. In your daughters case it may be worth the experiment.

I had asked my LLMD about it back when we thought we were fighting a Mepron resistant strain of babs that was preventing my progress, but she kind of dismissed it as old school Rx. I broke the plateau I was stuck on when I switch back over to hit bart.

Thanks for your reply. My daughter is already on zyth/doxy so I’m hoping that’s good enough coverage for bartonella. Do you remember what you switched to? Will give the primaquine a shot. Hoping others with first hand experience chime in.

Unless the infection is fairly recent , I doubt zith/doxy is enough for bartonella.

Most need something stronger: ie Rifampin...Rifabutin...and some people take the fluoroquinolones (black box warnings on those)
