KentuckyO’Connor,
I just read through all the posts on this thread and wanted to attempt to give you some comfort, encouragement, and clarity.
Your frustration regarding treatment and costs are valid and totally understandable. When dealing with something as complex and frightening as Lyme disease, you want to feel seen, heard, and understood by a competent doctor who is focused on you as an individual person. It is only natural. We all want that.
Treating Lyme disease is expensive and unfair no matter how you slice it. It feels completely un-American to have to pay any medical doctor out of pocket when we work hard to pay (often high) premiums to even have health insurance. Feeling cheated and pillaged by this reality is natural. Money doesn’t grow on trees and when you don’t have it, you don’t have it.
You are young. That has its advantages and disadvantages. One advantage is your body is likely in better shape to recover from this than an older person would be. The disadvantages are greater anxiety about
the future, about
money, about
disability, and impatience with the treatment timeline and the vast unknowns involved.
If you can do something to clear your mind and settle your soul for a time, it will enable you to take a step back and try to look at the situation more objectively.
The goal is to recover your health. Dr. J. has a reputation for successfully treating patients and helping them recover. I’m guessing that’s why you chose them. If you have any confidence in his (or his clinic’s) ability to do that for you, ask yourself if you’re willing to follow his protocol and communicate your concerns with them and follow through. If you are, then resolve yourself to put frustration aside and focus on recovering your health. If you’re not, then ask yourself who or what you believe will enable you to recover and move in that direction.
Mental resolve and patience are important for recovery no matter what doctor you see or treatment methods you choose. It’s not likely that anything will happen as quickly or easily as we wish. This is a trial of endurance that requires focus and re-focus many times over.
You can do this, and we will support you no matter what you choose.
