That's good that you were able to wean off in 6 months. It took me 15 months to get off 2mg of Ativan which is just ridiculous. I was also yanked off Lunesta cold turkey right before that which was just irresponsible. I have bad luck with psychiatrists.
You’d think of all people that psychiatrists would understand about
weaning off meds... but so many do not.
Psych meds ruined my fathers life.
Long story - short - he was given zopiclone nightly when he was in the hospital for several weeks (and most likely Ativan)
But we didn’t know - no one told him or us. He just took whatever the nurses gave him (that generation that never questions the Dr’s.
Within a few days of being discharged he had overwhelming anxiety - so they prescribed Ativan and zopiclone.
The instructions for Ativan was he could take it up to 4 x a day and zopiclone before bed. After two weeks - he became dependent - and was looking for more than 4 per day. He had intra dose withdrawal and the zopiclone was giving him nightmares.
He ended up in the psych ward one morning (about
4 weeks later) when he couldn’t function - he was a mess.
He never did make it back home. He spent the rest of his life in a facility .
(Spent over a couple of months in the psyche ward where they weaned him off the psyche meds in three days - and he went into psychosis... )
After the psyche ward they sent him to a full care facility (nursing home) because he never did get back to his baseline.
So that’s the horror story that still haunts me to this day.
