Ceftriaxone IV

Hello,

My llmd is putting me on iv ceftriaxone, 2 grams slowly Im infusion?

Any expeience you all could Share on this?

Is it IV or IM ?

Just make sure you know how much cost is covered and for how long. Most states will only approve 30 days on IV. A handful of other's will cover it for as long as your LLMD prescribes it. Google "Infusion for Lymies" and read the 30 page booklet on the ins and outs of IV Rocephin, and how to save costs. Infusion America in FL has some of the best pricing for Rocephin and supplies. Last time I checked it was around $800 per month if you got to go out of pocket.

You will also need to have the Picc line dressing changed once a week, and monitor your labs every other week to be safe. I was lucky to have a home nurse covered by insurance, but maybe your LLMD can change it as needed.

IV Rocephin is not a silver bullet, and I recommend it only for severely ill patients, and those that cannot tolerate any oral abx.

So you go to the hospital for the infusions? How often?

My llmd made a strange prescription. He said for now i will take cefuroxime and ceftriaxone on alternate days. But i think he knows what he is doing. He said ceftriaxone slow infusion to see how i react first. What do you think?

Hmm - I wonder why the oral isn’t from a different class of abx.

No I don’t really have access for IV abx - unless I go thru Dr J clinic - but that would mean travelling every 6 weeks to the clinic (that’s what they require)
And we couldn’t swing it financially.
But he never mentioned I need IV anyway.

If the IVs get too expensive you can do at home IM injections too. I’ve done both IM and IV ceftriaxone. It was the first med I took that really started to help. Cleared up some brain fog and cardiac symptoms! Good luck!

i had positive conformation via microscopy and a positive ind igenix test . i treated borrelia with iv abx ,bee venom ,herbs ,rife and other modalities,some concurrently for the greater part of 2 years before getting back to work. which is not for every one . fiscally ,traveling to hospital 3x a week was not practical so i had a smartport installed which i still have. inthe begining when a good dieoff would happen eyes would get red and itchy kinda burny i knew it was a good kill if i felt that .one discouraging thing when i looked at my blood while on rocephin there were unaffected spirochetes in th smear . it certainly did help with heart inflammation and encephalopathy but one need more 30 days usually

Are you going to take dapsone while you're on the IV?

I've never had IV, but I give myself a butt shot every weekend. It seems to keep the symptoms at bay. I'm hoping to get laid off one of these days, and then I'll be able to go on UI for 7 months and do a hardcore course of ceftriaxone IV and dapsone. Not sure if this will do anything, but it's worth a shot.

Not to dissuade you from IV ceftriaxone but something else to consider perhaps is Ceftriaxone in liposomal form. I have done IM ceftriaxone and oral. Without question the oral liposomal form was much more effective at reducing my symptoms. The downside unfortunately is that insurance will not cover the liposomal form as it's considered "experimental"

I hear that and had the same reservation. All I can say is that in my experience the oral Liposomal form is more effective at reducing my neurological symptoms which include crushing headaches, and burning all over my body including my scalp. As I mentioned I tried the IM shots of ceftriaxone and i was actually injecting 3 times the amount of what I take for the oral form and my symptoms increased, spread and raged. For whatever reason, the liposomal form does a better job at reducing/eliminating the headaches and burning that I experience. I realize that it's anecdotal but I am glad that I decided to try it before going the IV route as it works. Again the only downside thus far is having to shell out the 170.00 per month ( includes shipping).

So what do you take orally? Omnicef?
