I disagree that it's impossible to take too many probiotics. Some people respond poorly to specific strains, and most people will have discomfort and/or loose bowels on high doses. Some people can have severe digestive distress from even low-dose probiotics, although sometimes it's a die-off reaction as the good bacteria elbow out the bad. Diversifying into more live fermented food sometimes is more helpful than supplements (as long as you don't have mast cell activation syndrome).
Any chance the bowel issues are a herx and not a side effect?
I have not taken pharmaceutical antibiotics for Lyme because I have allergies to two main families of antibiotics and every other antibiotic I have tried causes constant diarrhea and/or vomiting for me (except for Zithromax, oddly). All doctors I have consulted hear this and are 100% confident about opting for herbs and other routes of treatment for me, so please know that these meds are not your only option for getting well if the side effects are intolerable. That said, I often have wondered if occasional binders could help my gut tolerate pharmaceutical antibiotics (taken away from meds and supps and food, of course). Anyone do this?
I am glad that you called your doctor's office. You should not be dealing with runny digestive side effects for the duration of your treatment. You need to digest well in order to process nutrients, calories, supplements, and medicine!
