I feel like I would have done much better to quit trying to make my doctor understand and go somewhere else—it's just that I was so sick, and so tired of switching doctors, I really got myself stuck with doctors who didn't know what they were doing at all.
This here. That’s what the first 6.5 years undiagnosed was like. I only had 2 primary care doctors during this time, but tried to talk to all my doctors about
my symptoms as they affected my whole body - allergists (x2), dermatologist, OB/GYN (x2), and Mayo Clinic.
None of them mentioned the possibility of Lyme or asked about
ticks except the first allergist who tried to help me when I first got sick. He suspected but didn’t test, as far as I know. I denied any tick bites but told how I regularly pulled ticks out of my cats. I had bart streaks also, which he knew were indicative of something, but I don’t know if he knew what bartonella was. My current primary doctor said he’s never heard of bartonella or cat scratch disease. Hard to believe, but that’s what he told me.
I wasted a lot of time on conventional doctors and didn’t want to venture into alternative medicine, as I had no real understanding of what it was. I thought it was all just New Age voodoo. I had never heard of Functional MD’s or functional medicine. Fear of the unknown, I suppose.
