Anyone know if the B.B. warnings include non oral applications??

I’m freaking out because my son texted me with a photo he took of ear drops he was prescribed for a bad ear infection.
He didn’t go to the dr right away and now the infection is worse including affecting his hearing.

He sent me the photo because I had lectured him awhile back about the dangers of fluoroquinolones.

These drops contain Cipro

The Dr told him if no improvement within a few weeks to go to the ER.

Not sure how the ER will help -

I don't have any kind of official knowledge about this, Girlie, but I understand your concern! My guess (just a guess!) is that the amount used in an ear drop form is both small and diluted, so it's unlikely to carry the same degree of risk.

I feel bad now about the flurry of texts I sent him... lol.

I think what you wrote makes common sense - dose would be very low ....AND it’s topical - so possibly micro amount absorbed into his blood stream.

I was prescribed Ciloxan, which is a Cipro eye drop years ago for conjunctivitis. I had an allergic reaction to it. I had a pink splotchy rash on my back the next morning and my skin burned. I called the eye doctor and told them. They told me not to use anymore and called in a different prescription.

I don’t know. I knew nothing about bart at the time. That was about 30 years ago. I do remember feeling kind of funny in addition to the rash. I thought it was a reaction and the doctor’s office seemed to think so, too.

Cipro is one of the most effective abx for Bartonella. (That’s why I wondered if u experienced a herx possibly)

How does the patient or the doctor determine if it’s an allergic drug reaction or a herx?

The problem with Cipro or levaquin is the devastating side effects can mimic a herx - ie sore tendons/muscles, peripheral neuropathy are common symptoms of lyme. So when those symptoms get worse or appear how do you know?

Allergies most likely wouidnt cause the above symptoms tho.

But rashes are a common allergy symptom - so not sure how you’d tell.

i said the same thing about sulfa reaction?! i used a gse ear oil that worked well , also silver acs and ozone insufflation helped get bart off my ears , possibly connected to nerves in middle ear ; my vertigo subsided then...
does your son have other bart symptoms? as a proud headstrong person ,i ignored them for years and years

Blue - re: other Bart symptoms - not that I know of.
If staying up til wee hours of the morning gaming on his computer is a symptom... then... yah!

Doc says his ear infection is becuz he’s got impacted wax in his ears... but the doc told him to go to the ER and they’d flush them.

Since when did Drs stop flushing ears in their office and expect the ER docs to do if?
It’s not what I consider an emergency if all he needs is the wax removed. SMH

But I worry about him - especially becuz he’s in a different city so I feel like I can’t help him...

But yah I do wonder about congenital transmission - I most likely had bart long before my pregnancy - but if I was healthy at the time - is the Bart even transmissible?
I think I likely had it since my childhood and my immune system kept it at bay until 2013 - stressful times and maybe a tick bite - and here we are.
