Hello,

Been sick for many years and am now looking at Lymes disease as the cause. I have some labs over the last few years that I think are telling me something. My naturopath hasn't put anything together as far as a diagnosis. I really don't care about a diagnosis, I really just want to get better. But knowing what I am fighting will help tremendously.

Anyway, over the past 3 years I have had elevated VEGF. It is currently normal due to japanese knotweed but previously it was as high as 900. My C4a is around 15,000 and my CD57 is down to 34, it was previously higher. I started on Stephen Buhner protocol for Bartonella and shortly after, I had increased joint pain, headache, nausea, excessive sweating, marked hypoglycemia. These are not my only symptoms but they are the ones that have a considerable increase. Just wondering if my labs mean something to anyone out there. I see a new naturopath in 2 weeks.

Yep, sounds like bartonella, both because of those lab results and because your symptoms increased while targeting bartonella with Buhner's protocol.

Are you familiar with the concept of a Herxheimer reaction? When you treat these infections and the pathogens die, they produce endotoxins that create a temporary worsening of symptoms. This is called "herxing," a "herx," or a Herxheimer reaction. So when you took herbs known to target bartonella and your symptoms got worse, that was a sign that bartonella likely was being killed.

High VEGF is common with bartonella. Low CD57 means your killer cells are low and that your immune system is depressed, which is an affect of Lyme and bartonella. And c4a is elevated with Lyme, bartonella, and mold toxicity. Worth looking into all of the above!

High C4a is most associated with mold.

I believe mold can also cause CD57 to drop. My CD57 was increasing steadily. Then I started getting worse. Had new labs recently and also did mold testing. Aspergillis counts have skyrocketed from 90 to 970. My CD57 dropped to an all-time low of 35 after having increased up to 86.
