I have a hard time believing they just had 50g?? I mean the standard bacon and eggs breakfast is already a substantial amount of protein.
Seams a little low, Ive only had that much per day though many times.
Say, a homemade deli meat sandwich...it can be filling if loaded up with "fixings"and generally wont have much meat.
Meat was expensive in the 50's, there were no commercial livestock farms like today..
Chicken from what Ive heard was even expensive.
Two eggs have 12grms of protien.
The 50's marked the beginning craze of junk food too - carbs and sugar.
People didnt eat as much either, the population as a whole was almost skinny. What chemicals were starting to get into foods did not alter next generation genes yet. We have fat babies today, its now in the genes.
