Just looking for a way to cope with my rapidly declining situation. Someone suggested this to me. If anyone has tried it and its helped significantly, please let me know. I’m desperate

I worked in the mental health field for years. There's a definite correlation between chronic illness and trauma, including the very real trauma of chronic illness. Stress, depression, and anxiety (which can be a symptom of Lyme or simply a result of the hardship of it) create immune dysfunction, hormone imbalances, neurological issues, structural issues, digestive problems, more severe pain, and so much more.
So yes! CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy) or really most forms of mental health therapy can be extremely beneficial. CBT often is recommended as a way to learn some strategies and coping skills for difficult emotions and stress so that you can process them in a healthier way. For many people it is life-changing. Also side-effect-free. ;) Lots of therapists have training in CBT and other modalities as well, if you are interested in doing any other sorts of mental health work. Mind-body work is especially helpful for chronic illness. My favorite is Internal Family Systems Therapy, but it takes a little getting used to if you don't have much familiarity with therapy. EMDR has been known to alleviate symptoms of PTSD (which, again, serious illness can cause) very quickly. The effects on people's physical symptoms can be significant with the right therapy and a good therapist.
Big fan of good mental health care, here. And honestly I've never met a person who could not benefit from a little support. Don't let the stigma of the few remaining ignorant folks stop you.

With the right therapist, CBT is priceless. Absolutely life changing. Can't recommend it enough.

Honestly I've tried it and because my problems are all physical and out of my control, it didn't help. CBT is about
taking control of your thoughts and feelings. I want to take control of my symptoms so it doesn't work.

Great responses here. Thanks for the input!
Jb1994: sorry it didn’t work for you. I too have physical symptoms that are currently out of my control. But I’m going to give it a shot anyway. I’ve got nothing to lose by trying. And I’m desperate to find a way to try to cope better. I hope it helps!
