Two questions. Not sure if they can be answered. Probably will require a specialist or for me to ask my doctor but I'll ask anyway.

Do mast cell/histamine reactions from food intolerances start in the stomach or the gut (intestines)? Mine seem to be delayed so I am thinking the intestines when the actual nutrients are absorbed but then again I don't know if the inflammatory action begins in the stomach upon contact. I know there are mast cells in both areas but I dunno what's happening where and I want to figure this out.

What is mast cell degranulation? I understood it before but now I forgot it, can someone give me a short explanation? Is it a good thing or a bad thing? I read it has to do with mediators but my brain is spent from too much homework this week.

I did an experiment on myself and have concluded the reactions start in the stomach. Sigh.

So degranulation is a bad thing then. I thought it might've meant like, degrading the histamine and breaking it down. So if there's too many mast cell mediators I don't get it... they don't mediate by ya know, mediating the mast cell response and keeping it from going out of control? Or what's going on. Explain like I'm stupid.

Mast cell degranulation just refers to the mast cells themselves breaking down and releasing their constituents; histamine, triptans and many others. Mast cell degranulation is normal, it's just way higher than it should be in us

Hi, JB. I'm curious about your experiment! What have your symptoms been like? I'm trying to figure out some GI mysteries as well lately.

@saraeli well my main symptom is weight gain, the other notable ones being anxiety and insomnia.

He said he was going back to Washington state to open his practice again.. has that not happened yet?

I think you can still do phone consults with him

His bio at the bottom of the article mentioned he was no longer practing, but I didn’t note the date.

I’m on maintenance now - taking abx 4 days a month - (one week on/3 weeks off)
I have a few lingering symptoms..

Did you like your PA?

Yes. I see Rachel. Not on a protocol yet. I will definitely need to pulse as I am sensitive to every treatment. I’m a little worried.

I’ve heard from several people that they’re happy with her.

Do you feel like you are in good hands with her... did she listen to your concerns?

No protocol yet? Are you on stabilization meds/herbs for several weeks first?

Yes, she listened carefully. Good to hear others are happy. I can’t figure out why I’m so sensitive to treatment unless it has to do with mcas.
