Went to Sam’s today to take a look. The model they have is the 2019 edition and is 8 qts. Will be $69.99 tomorrow only. It’s a great deal compared to the other models/prices, but the 8 qt is just HUGE. Great if you’re cooking for a soup kitchen, but not for a small kitchen. If I put it on the kitchen counter, I don’t think I would be able to see inside of it without standing on a stool. It looks big enough to put a whole turkey in.
I would much prefer a smaller one. Hopefully some other stores will have deals on smaller models.
Many times, I've wished that I had an 8-quart pressure cooker, versus a 6-quart. This even though I'm mostly cooking by myself for myself. The other night, when I made a stew, I was right at the maximum level for how full the pressure cooker can be filled. So, keep in mind that, whatever size you buy, it
cannot be filled to the top!
As for pressure cookers and how much to fill them, please see the following links:
https://www.hippressurecooking.com/pressure-cooker-capacity-faq-if-it-fits-cook-ithttps://www.dummies.com/food-drink/cooking/pressure-cooker/pressure-cookers-for-dummies-cheat-sheetIs an 8-quart that much taller than a 6-quart that it would require standing on a stool to see inside? I've not looked at an 8-quart in person to compare.
Also, remember that, if you have an 8-quart pressure cooker, it doesn't mean you have to cook more food that you would in a 6-quart. That is, you can still cook the same amount. But, if you have a 6-quart pressure cooker, should you want to cook a bigger batch on occasion, you'll be limited.
We've been able to put an entire chicken in the 6-quart, along with some vegetables. I only WISH I had one big enough for a turkey! Though, it's hard to beat oven-roasted turkey. Food is the main reason I love Thanksgiving over any other holiday. At some point, I'd like to try spatchcocking (butterflying) a turkey, too.
Another kitchen tool I've wondered about
is an air fryer. I've seen them, but never used one. I'm intrigued with the idea of being able to cook many items without (or, with very little) oil -- especially potatoes. I eat a fair amount of potatoes, but they're usually boiled or pressure cooked. I rarely eat anything deep fried, the occasional exceptions being potato chips cooked in avocado oil and French fries from a local restaurant that are cooked in beef tallow.
Good grief.
This is supposed to be about
pressure cookers and here I am thinking about
potato chips and French fries. At least I stopped before discussing a local restaurant that makes the best doughnuts I've ever had...
Okay, I better stop.
Hang in there, my dear. Try to stay present, as best you can. Remember the saying: "Inch-by-inch, life's a cinch. Yard-by-yard, life is hard." Kinda corny, but more true than not.
Best always,
