EBV kicked off this whole Lyme deal for me. I was struck with awful, persistent illness (including swollen lymph nodes, sore throat, and fatigue) and testing negative for EBV, but four weeks later (still feeling awful) tested sky-high positive. (Might be worth testing again, since it doesn't always show up positive in the first couple of weeks.) I have tested sky-high positive (IGg) ever since, for four years now. I have lots of positive tests for other tick-borne illnesses, too, so the bacteria are where most of my antimicrobial treatment has focused.
There's a forum member with a lot of EBV experience who I hope will contribute their knowledge soon. Aside from the timing of tests (i.e. don't test too early) I have not heard anything about the EBV tests being inaccurate, but I don't know for sure.
Have you had testing for other viruses, like CMV and HHV-6? I think a lot of us have low-level viral activity contributing to fatigue and inflammation. How are your white blood cells?
It's also worth looking into mold.
If you suspect viral activity, then you can add in antiviral herbs (olive leaf), antiviral meds (Acyclovir), monolaurin, or transfer factor. Researched Nutritionals PlasMyc transfer factor formula contains antibodies for EBV specifically (as well as Mycoplasma).
