Probiotic Expiration

Are probiotics generally effective past the expiration date? Does anyone know how long they would usually keep?

I bought GutPro powder probiotic quite a long time ago and used it for some time until noticing that it was caking inside. Haven't been taking it. When it cakes, is it a bad sign? I've tried to keep moisture out.
