Anyone else with Lyme and Covid?

Hi everyone. It’s been a long time since I was last on this site. I’ve been “recovered” from bad Lyme and co-infections for a number of years. Unfortunately, both my husband and I first showed symptoms of Covid on April 30 and we both tested positive a couple of day’s later. My first three weeks were mostly a breeze compared to what others are dealing with: mild illness, loss of appetite, loss of taste, felt a bit flu like, tired. But nothing crazy. Fever went away after a week and I was feeling well on my road to recovery for the next two weeks. I went for a long walk last Wednesday and then the next day, I felt hit by a truck. Fevers returned and I have felt a lot of Lyme symptoms and it’s making me very anxious. Yesterday it was neuropathy and feeling like a cell phone buzzing under my skin. Today that was better but now my butt muscles are starting to really hurt. That was one of my first Lyme symptoms. I feel flu like again. I feel like there is an elephant sitting on my chest (that’s not Lyme feeling... that’s definitely
Covid). My vision is blurry. I just feel sssooo off.

Is there anyone else out there with Lyme who has also been dealing with covid? I’m f so, please reach out. Thx!

Did your dr prescribe Mepron for it? I have azithromycin and Malarone. But my dr gave me Ivermectin to take for the covid. Are you 100% healed?

Ivermectin was really good. It helped a ton. But not on it now and having lots of weird stuff. Did you have a confirmed positive test?

I had neuropathy four years ago when I was bite by a tick. It lasted a while but haven’t had it in years so it’s very unsettling. I worry that the covid reactivated the Lyme OR I worry that I was bit by a tick and don’t know it OR it could also be that covid creates inflammation of already vulnerable body systems. For me, the neuropathy was one of my maim Lyme symptoms and maybe the nerves are just being irritated by covid. So it’s hard to know what’s what.

I don t lnow if you remember me, I am the young French girl who was alone in the hyperthermia clinic in january 2018.
Here in France, we are a lot of lymies with very probable covid.
I think I had it the week just before the confinment, I already was on zithromax and when Raoult published his study, my llmd put me asap on plaquenil.
Mild covid symptoms ( very bad cough, diarrhea, no fever but with lyme I am unable to run a fever for years, but chills, sweats etc...) went away in 2 or 3 weeks. But since my bart flared a big way, all neurological symptoms ( nerve pain etc...) and some new symptoms I never had.
A few lymies friends had it too and they have a big backslide in their health. Just a simple walk can hit them for a few days.
I personnaly is more disabled than ever.

I am not a doctor and I know you were under the care of one of the best llmd, but I think covid is a crap that flares lyme and co in lymies instead of give them the normal symptoms.

Evanston, did you have IVIG for your neuropathy before? Is that how your neuropathy went into remission last time? Or is this your first time getting IVIg?

Just trying to figure out the timeline. You said you had neuropathy 4y ago...so you’ve been on IVIG for 4y, or the neuropathy went away before the IVIG?

This aligns w my initial thinking which is your immune system is weak and sensitive ever since the lyme. Covid likely stimulated it again and you’re feeling symtoms because of that. All adds up, IVIG should help you get back to where you need to be.

Can I ask, were any of your autoimmune markers positive? ANA, SSA/B, etc. Was your sed rate normal? Complements?

I’m in a similar boat, have some sort of post infectious autoimmune issue, but mine has turned into a chronic autoimmune issue... ANA off the charts, making lots of different antibodies. As such IVIG helps to only slow the progression, not put it into remission.

I guess I’m always curious in cases like yours, is it just residual inflammation from an aggravated immune system on high alert, or is it an actual autoimmune disease. Hence curious if you have any markers. I assume it’s just inflammation because the process can be shut down, whereas a true autoimmune disease really is difficult to stop.

He probably got it for CVID. You’d have to test chronically low on IgG immunoglobulin levels. Often people with CVID experience higher levels of inflammation, and SFN is a common complication. But they prescribe it for the CVID, not the SFN in that case. Sometimes you can get an insurance company to pay for it for SFN.

I guess I just answered my own question re: autoimmunity. If he has CVID that’s likely the cause of his SFN, not autoimmunity.

My husband and I went to NYC in Feb. When we got back his knee blew up out of nowhere about a month later. Came back positive for lyme and it was from an old infection that he never knew he even had. So I'm guessing we were exposed to covid or something else there and it triggered the Lyme. So I do think that exposure can flare old infections.
