Biaxin vs. Minocycline

Between Biaxin and Minocycline, does one cross the blood brain barrier better? From past experience, I believe Minocycline does kill my bart but am contemplating trying Dr. M's protocol (directly through him or possibly through my current LLPA) which includes Biaxin. Thanks.

Thanks, Girlie. I haven't started Dr. M's protocol (Biaxin plus Rifampin/Rifabutin) but am thinking about doing it either directly through Dr. M or through my current LLPA if she agrees. I'm just praying about how to proceed and what protocol to use now that it seems like Dr. J' protocols are not working out too well for me. I think I have an aggressive and stubborn bart infection and the high-dosed, pulsed protocols may not be the thing for me at this point.

Biaxin is one I haven't tried yet but have used Minocycline twice in past and had improvement both times.

Dr. M is the "bart guru" in Bethesda, MD. From what I've heard, he starts with Biaxin for 4-6 weeks, then adds Rifampin and gradually builds dose, then goes to Rifabutin and gradually builds dose. He also does supportive therapy and addresses adrenals and thyroid if necessary. The protocol is probably individualized to some degree. ABX are not pulsed.

From what I've heard, he'll ramp up Rifampin and Rifabutin to higher than normal doses. I'm sure this also varies per patient. Perhaps some don't need the higher doses.
