What is the best type of light bulb for our health?

Hi all,

I was just wondering about this.
I've been trying to optimize my sleep due to struggling with Lyme fatigue and I'm also trying to detox at night.

A couple years ago everyone switched over to LED lighting and somehow it's not agreeing with me.
I noticed several things:

- My eyes have been hurting.
- My vision has been declining.
- When turning the light off it takes a LOT longer to adjust to the dark. This actually scared me on several occasions now, I never had this before.
- Something feels off at night, definitely cognitively. Possibly mood related too.
- The LED lighting looks fake, although I could live with this if it wasn't for the other things.

I've been doing some reading and found that there are several health concerns related to LED lighting.

So I was wondering if anyone else is having trouble with LED lighting?

I know they save in cost, and have other benefits, but if it's affecting our health is it really worth it?

Would love to hear your thoughts on this!

I had a few light posts a few years ago. They were originally about the light therapy boxes (and the inside bulbs used) for seasonal affective disorder.....which then morphed into modern light bulbs themselves and health issues possibly related to them. That might be a good trail to read down googling the science and guts in those boxes.

Unfortunately I dont remember much about those posts or the links I found. And I never got a light box even though every November I feel some affects of low light and short day light- just not as bad as some people so I just motor and nap (ha ha) through it.

Most of my home is still incandescent- I grabbed many for the long run as I don't dive into new tech of any type while the population is voluntarily doing R & D experiments for the manufacturing companies LOL.

The LEDs have morphed themselves in just a few years. I saw a great display at a Home Depot store showing the color variations and brightness with three variations of the same manufacture and watt size...day light, soft light and something else (forgot). They were small lit display boxes that allowed you to put your hands in.

I have one standard size LED thats a "soft white" which prob going to replace with a incandescent because its just to bright. The brightness comparison charts on packaging from incandescent to LED leave you with lights that are too bright with the conventional bulbs. At least they seem to stay the same brightness over their life- the new tech florescents a few years ago dim with age.

I think the incandescence bulbs are the better ones.
Don’t they mimic the sun light?

I can’t handle fluorescent lights

I’m ok with LED

The old incandescent are the safe ones, but if you can find them, they don’t look the sane.

CFL is the worst - mercury

LED is bad, too, but I forget why and I was just researching this a few days ago.

I have new ceiling fans that are LED, but I rarely use the lights.

"Standard size" Incandescents are no longer manufactured for sale in the US. Because they suck power and the US power grid is now under-powered. What is out there is "old stock".

Most Incandescent came in soft light and day light.

Newer LED's (2019-2020) come in three types of light. This was not as common with old original LEDs from 5-8 years ago.

Soon, only LED will be available for standard bulb shape, so figure out which of the three "intensities" (not the same as wattage) you like. Buy one at a time to experiment.

Halogens were dangerous- too hot. Fluorescents suck, take time to warm up to full power and have a very high frequency flicker which cameras will notice, and your brain will notice, but not so much your eye.

The "type" of light a bulb is mimicking here is the important part.

I just remembered what’s wrong with LED - dirty electricity and electromagnetic radiation.

This is the article I was reading the other day about light bulbs. The blogger has Lyme and EMF sensitivities and became a “certified EMF expert.”

There's a book called Building a Better World in your Backyard by Paul Wheaton that's a great permaculture book, but it has a whole chapter about incandescent light bulbs being the best environmentally when used right. There's a podcast about light bulbs on his website (richsoil.com) as well, but I have not listened to it.

I would guess that you feel extra issues with LEDs because of the way they use EMF.
