Bicillin herx?? Or worsening Lyme?

Hi guys.

Hope someone has some insight as to what’s happening to me right now. I just had my forth Bicillin injection for a recent tick bite (two each week). So today is the end of my second week. Last night had awful pain in my muscles and bones. Like burning in my spine and back muscles and butt muscles. Today has been better in terms of the pain.... but I just went for a walk and it feels like my hip bone is shattered with deep pain in my back muscles.

I’ve been detoxing a ton: epson salt baths, sauna once, burbur, coffee enema, daily walks, activated charcoal.

Is the Lyme getting worse? Or is this turning into a massive herx? And if so, how long can I anticipate it lasting before coming out on the other side? I feel WAY worse now than before I started two weeks ago.

What was your dosage of Bicillin? And are you sensitive to meds and supplements in general?

My serum sickness had none of those things, except for the pain. Diagnosed by Dr K. The muscle and joint pain was intense.

Was on 1.2m/week. Also was on IViG so the two together May have overwhelmed my immune system. Got better when I quit the Bicillin.

It is a type 3 hypersensitivity, but it has nothing to do with sensitivity to medication you’re referring to. It happens when your body makes an antibody to something you’re injecting, and attacks it. But the problem occurs when you run out of complement to dispose of it. Have you had your complement c3 and C4 tested, are they normally low?

It may not be it, but if you decide to inject again and the pain intensifies, probably that

Maybe not that then, but something to keep in mind if it gets worse w next injection. Hopefully just goes away, keep us posted good luck!

It’s insane how hard it is. I never had much reaction to antibiotics, I don’t think current infection is my problem.

Yah took a few weeks to turn it around after that serum sickness. I’m healing now for the first time w diet actually at the moment. Finally, finally got my inflammation down after a few weeks weeks of strict keto and treating SIBO. Re-starting IVIG next week. Hopefully I can just put it on cruise control and heal naturally after that.

I’ve seen a lot of people do really well w Bicillin tho, but usually for chronic infections that have been around a while. Too bad it doesn’t seem to agree with you.

So I think I need to stop for a week and see what happens. Also causing insomnia. Can’t sleep ;(

Think I should stop altogether? I literally feel awful. Headache, neck ache, back throbbing. I did NOT have ANY of this prior to Bicillin. I will for sure stop for the week and talk to my dr and regroup. Maybe just ditch the Bicillin and stick with doxy and maybe Bactria? Or some other intracellular? I se to do better on intrwcellulars

Yep, will do. Waiting to hear back but I’m sure I won’t hear from him until Monday since it’s the weekend.

Quick update is that the pain got better throughout the day Once I got up and moving. Fever went away this morning when I took Advil. It was back by early evening. I just took an epson salt bath and I’ve got the heating pad on my back. I’m taking two more Advil and a benedryl before bed in the hopes it helps.

I’ve noticed that it gets super inflamed and painful when I lay on my backside. So the back of my head, neck, back and butt all throb and burn when there is pressure from my own weight. I know that sounds weird but that’s what I’ve observed.

Still trying to figure out if this is massive herx or “serum sickness”. Hopefully my dr will know. Thanks for checking in!

Smart man, gotta listen to your body, these things can take a while to clear. I’m surprised he was willing to gamble like that. No sense some of these drs

Ugh, that’s just not right tho. It’s utter speculation, compared to a known and very real, documented response to the drug. Some of these drs. That’s why I love Dr K

I have often wondered - if our immune system is keeping it in check - ie we haven’t irradicated all of it - then what happens down the road - say a couple of years and we take an antibiotic - for something - like a bladder infection... or pneumonia.... etc - does our lyme flood our system again ? And we get lyme symptoms. ?

Why would the lyme "flood your system again" because you took an antibiotic? Antibiotics are shown to make lyme go dormant, not the other way around.

He clearly has serum sickness. The difference between serum sickness and a "massive herx", is that if its a herx and he keeps taking bicillin ad infinitum, it will eventually calm down as the bugs are killed off. But that is not what will happen. If he keeps taking bicillin indefinitely, i guarantee you it will get worse and worse until he eventually dies. Serum Sickness wreaks havoc on your body, especially the kidneys. The immune-complexes it generates end up in the sinovial fluid of the joints, hence the body wide pain, and the kidneys. I've read about this extensively and consulted multiple immunologists, as I've had it twice.

This is why lyme Drs often get a bad name, because everything is lyme and everything is a herx. For that LLMD to completely ignore a very real and very recognized side-effect of bicillin like serum sickness, and to come up with some ridiculous, speculative explanation for why he literally can't get out of bed for weeks and his whole body hurts, is not only negligent, but it's criminal. I'm getting angrier just thinking about this stupidity. If you're going to prescribe a drug, make sure you ******g understand it.

Nah the reaction is very well understood. There's no great test, but usually your c1q binding assay will go up as the complement is activated and your complement markers will go down.
