9 different strains of Lyme!

So I just got my vibrant test back and I have 9 different species of Lyme! How in the world can that happen? Does anyone else have that many? I’m scared!! Also had anaplasmosis too. And probably Bart cause I was right under the cut off for that.

Yes that's possible I would say bt wow ! I came out pos for european and californian strains of lyme and I've never been no where even close to those states wierd.

I have no doctor so I couldn’t tell what I have but I definitely know I have Lyme , Bartonella and mycoplasma.. and other co infections I know I have because I have new symptoms all the time and so I decicded to just buy all Buhner protocols for all the co infections he lists. I do know people can have multiple co infections which is daunting and so expensive . I sympathize with you!

were the 9 types you mention found by PCR or by serology methods?

I'm not sure without seeing the test report - but it could be that some surface proteins are shared between species/ strains - so the results may not mean you necessarily have all species/strains that antigens came back positive for.

there is also the topic of false positives - I may have a read of the article they published in Nature - to see how they did their analysis for determining false-positive rates - often I find the logic for this somewhat questionable and close scrutiny if often required to interpret the results properly.

In general, specialist Lyme testing often errs towards more false-positive results in order to catch more true positives - when compared to conventional Lyme testing. It's a kind of adaptation to its market.

I wouldn’t trust that vibrant wellness test. Had my suspicions myself, then my LLMD told me he didnt trust it. I spoke w Neil Nathan's office by email as well and he mentioned he did not trust this test. In fact, the exact quote was, "Dr Nathan and many of his colleagues do not trust this test".

Gosh I hope you’re right! I’m terrified! Like 1-3 I could handle but 9!!! I feel like giving up and not even trying at this point

I wouldn't worry too much. Sounds like the test is not very reliable and, as Girlie said, a variety of "strains" may not be relevant to treatment. Was the test ordered by an LLMD?

It's very common to have multiple tick-borne illnesses. There are dozens of species of Borrelia that can cause illness in humans, but since there aren't test for most of them, most of us never know we have them. Having multiple strains does not necessarily mean that you are sicker or that treatment will be more difficult. Almost no one has only Borrelia bergdorferi in their mix of illnesses. In fact, some LLMDs treat "the three Bs" in everyone regardless of test results, and assume that things like mycoplasma and EBV will be in most people's systems as well.

Don't be discouraged by these results. All it means is that you have confirmation of tick-borne illness and can treat accordingly!

Would you like to share the test results? I have positive test results for eight tick-borne diseases.

yep - treatment regimes are pretty much the same for all of them

that was the serology part of the summary

so they are saying you had antibodies that reacted to the various bits of each of these organisms they presented them with - but without going into a lot of detail it may simply be that your antibodies were reacting to the same bit found in several different Lyme organisms

did you have any IgM positive results - or PCR positive results - in the next 2 colums of that summary table ?

Actually lyme is known to have false negatives - not the other way around.
That is why llmd’s and llnds often do a clinically diagnosis - due to the false negatives.

Please don’t be concerned about the number of strains.
A LLMD or LLND will sort through it all for you

true, but there are also false positives in any of these tests - its a complex topic - but for every technology, there is no perfect test - they simply have to "set the slider" along a scale in terms of the thresholds for positive and negative and that determines how many false negatives and false positives they will get. These curves for these rates overlap so there is no place they can usefully set it so they get none of either.

then it's about who decides where the thresholds should be set - conventional tests are more concerned with population-level epidemiology (eg CDC surveillance criteria) and medical conservatism - so they set the test to have v few false positives ( hence lots of false negatives )

specialist Lyme tests are marketed at people who think they may have Lyme - are chronically ill - and want to have something diagnosed so they can at least try a treatment and therefore some hope of getting better - hence the sliders are set more towards less false negatives - but necessarily more false positives.

that is not to say that specialist Lyme tests do not also have high false-negative rates - just that it's actually a case of them having both - rather than one or the other.

that's exactly wt I did regardless of testing. If I had symptoms I'd start getting all the buhner protocol and self.trearinf myself as I think that's the best idea

I've looked at the Vibrant website, and to be honest, I wouldn't trust 'em as far as I could throw them. THEIR WEBSITE even gives me the creeps--like they've set up the perfect profitable business model--and you can find any ailment confirmed there. There are DEFINITELY questionable businesses set up to prey on the misinformation and fear surrounding Lyme in the U.S. Which isn't to say that some of their results aren't correct. . . .

But there's a reason why IGeneX is more highly-regarded, and even the NYState Health Dept. has okayed some of their testing as proper procedure and reimbursable through insurance companies. Let Anne W. wade through their results--and she also prob. has some knowledge & opinions about the Vibrant corporation. Sounds trite, mommyc (and not what we want to hear), but worrying and stress won't help in your healing path. Good information, exercise, and calming techniques will. BLESSINGS on you, with this troublesome path that many are walking, now. You're not ALONE. smile
