I'm considering making an appointment at Dr J clinic in dc. My question is it really that much better? I really like my dr but even he has said that my case may be beyond his experience. Would it be worth it? I'm just getting so desperate.
Geez - I don’t know how to answer that.
My case is different than most - as I live in BC Canada and the LL Dr’s here are all NP’s.
I was treated by the most experienced LLND we have and he was knowledgeable BUT he never really addressed Babesia.
He kind of danced around the subject. Then I heard from a different NP here that they (ND’s) aren’t permitted to prescribe the Babesia meds Mepron and Malarone.
So I felt defeated and decided I should go to the US for treatment.
LLMD MR in Seattle is the closest - but the reviews from people in my area were mixed.
When discussing this with my husband he asked me if I had the money who would I choose.
I said Dr J and he said “let’s go”
Dr J has many years of experience and I had watched a few interviews/videos of him and felt I’d be in good hands with him. He is very knowledgeable. He is also an Infectious Disease dr. He treated HIV patients early on and I believe he developed a pulsed protocol for them as well.
He doesn’t rely on positive tests (unlike some llmds) for lyme and coinfections.
He looks into other issues. The blood work you do after the initial consult is a long list - includes thyroid panel, b12, vit d, iron, magnesium, manganese, etc etc
But DrJ isn’t the only worthy LLMD in the US
I don’t regret going to him - even though I have spent a ton of money on airfare and hotels.
The appts generally alternate between phone and in-person.
Plus, after the first two appts, they are spaced out 3-4 months - not monthly like some llmd’s.
First appt - is approx 3 hours long and includes a physical. Not sure if that has changed.
The pulsing makes it easier to tolerate the meds.
