its an old post and i dont know if Spaceboy will be back
but - from memory and listening to Shoemker interviews - i think he used testing for methicillin resistant staph as a marker for staph which had colonised and would be contributing to Marcons
however - i think there is now a good deal of debate / disagreement in this area and shoemaker does not appear to be on the leading track of thoughts on it amongst practitioners - so i do not know how much weight to give that theory.
the difficulty seems to be that all conventional practitioners seem to be biased towards underdiagnoses and operate in what seems like a intentional state of disbelief
whereas on the other hand - alternative practitioners seem to be so keen to "find" something actionable and at least give their patients some actionable direction, engage in treatment (for which there is a financial incentive) and provide some hope - they tend to over diagnose and over treat.
its very difficult to navigate - and why i am often find myself compelled to do the deep dive into the research myself to try to find some pragmatic middle ground
