Hi guys, just wondering if you are able to drive? I always feel spacey and the motion of other moving cars really bothers me. I am just wondering if there is any help for this overstimulated feeling. Thank you!

I was able to drive up until I had to sell my car due to Lyme finances sad
Still makes me sad to think about. I know it's just "stuff" but it was my first and only car.

You might have benefit from tinting your windows, depending on your state laws.
As it might help with feeling overstimulated.

I’ve continued to drive throughout lyme.
I wasn’t concerned about safety - but I did have trouble finding my car in the parking lot at the grocery store a few times - but that was when my memory was really bad (instead of just ‘bad’ like it is now )

Thank you for the replys! Rainycloud, I'm so sorry you had to give up your car. The expenses that go along with Lyme are so sad. Girlie, good for you to continue driving! I hope one day I can get back to that point! My biggest issue is still depersonalization where I feel space and disoriented so it's hard to feel safe being behind the wheel.

I don't drive. I never needed or wanted to (lived in cities) until right before I got sick. I was starting to learn, but then when all this chronic crap arose, it didn't feel safe. My proprioception was off so often, sensations of movement, reflexes sluggish sometimes.... Honestly, knowing how many people in general are on sedating prescription drugs and sleep deprived and just generally distracted, it's amazing that so many people feel comfortable and confident behind the wheel of a multi-ton vehicle capable of going extremely fast....

I agree with you saraeli! My proprioception seem really off too, is there anything that has ever helped you with that?

i drive - for several years it gave me an intense headache if i drove more then 45minutes though

its somewhat better now but is still get it if i try to drive too far

my reactions and things are not quite as sharp as they were - i used to enjoy track days in fast cars so i can notice the difference between being fully sharp and just OK.

I drive though there was a period of time (most severe) when I did not, and I still don't always drive or don't drive for long distances depending on how I feel.

I drive without problem, but I did have to give up the motorcycle, due to worsening balance, concentration, and narcolepsy.

I was only unable to drive the first two weeks. I didn’t have what I call true dizziness or lightheadedness. I described it as my head felt “off,” like something was off kilter in my bearings. It felt like if whatever was off moved a fraction of a millimeter that I would lose control of my body. That passed after 2 weeks.

As the months and years went by, I had momentary episodes that occurred very infrequently and without warning. I haven’t driven long distance (more than an hour) in over 6 years.

I have had that weird feeling at traffic lights and in parking lots when other cars are moving. I feel like I am moving backwards but I am not moving at all. Gives me a shock feeling. I have had this when herxing especially from treating parasites or when very mold toxic.

For some reason I think babesia, parasites, mold, and major Candida tend to cause spacey feelings. Babesia seems to affect the head more than the body from what I recall reading in the past.

Thanks everyone, all of you guys who can still drive are so lucky, I am real,y happy to hear that a lot if you are still functioning in life! WBF, your past symptoms sound just like mine. I believe I have all of those issues. Do you know what helped you most with those issues. I apprciate everyones help!

I wasn't able to drive alone for a long time. I really had a lot of trouble driving, with visual perception, etc. I am doing pretty well though now. I drive a very big car, so I stay in the right lane and go slow.

We are looking to buy a new car -and I am a bit nervous.
We’re debating purchasing an electric car - but I am hesitant.
What if I find it too difficult to learn all that is different?
I guess test driving one would be a good idea…. IDK

I've always been fine driving for years up until about a month ago. I took clindamycin for a week and after that all hell broke loose. I have panic and anxiety drivin far distances. I feel spaced out and like if everything is gliding by and it scares me. Everything is like slow motion.

I couldn’t drive while in the middle of hard core treatment.
Overstimulation, lack of depth perception, numb feet so I couldn’t feel to safely and adequately push gas/brake, severe hand pain that I couldn’t hang on to the steering wheel, not to mention exhaustion from the overstimulation...cars going by, sunshine glaring and especially when it rained or snowed. nope.
oh yeah and memory problems. once I got lost in the middle of where I grew up.. like I should know every street and I called my mom crying I was so lost.
many times my brain thot green meant stop and red meant go. prolly not safe for me to be driving lol
