Been fascinated with all of these different feedback loops and processes that cause homestasis and immunity to breakdown. They're all inter-related. From glial-cell upregulation to neurotoxicity to histamine response to mast cell to ANS dysfunction to gut dysfunction.
This was a fantastic lecture tying them all together. Maybe one of the best I've seen. No real actionable advice, very scientific discussion of the pathways and how they reinforce each other. But I find it easier to treat when I understand something.
This kind of reinforces my view that it's not just about
the infection. That's one small piece of the neuro-inflammatory puzzle. Helps to clear the infection, but also need to address the other root causes of inflammation, from the stress response to the inflammatory gut. The last two I think make it easier to address the former.
One thing I learned from this lecture which I didnt appreciate is the mechanism by which low neurotransmitter levels kick off inflammation. Very interesting take, and part of how I think my process began, as it started w depression and then glutamate induced vestibular migraines.
