I'm one of the unusual (about
10-15% of thyroid patients). I was on T4 med (brands and generic) with minimal symptoms improvement for 11 years. Even tried to go hyper on purpose- it didnt happen. It sucked. labs improved but I didnt. I envy those who see improvement on the simple synthetic T4.
Some peoples cells dont use synthetic T4 very well. There are no tests that show if your cells are actually using thyroid med. The frees only show whats available in your blood. You can lead a horse to water but cant make him drink. The maker of Synthroid (Abbott) donates million$ to medical schools yearly, so naturally Drs are biased to T4 meds.
After 11 years of T4, and with a new Dr, we added synthetic T3in 2008 which felt like an illegal speed / narcotic drug. In and out of your system very fast. Not for me.
Then switched to Armour T3/T4 pig thyroid soon after.....and I improved in two months after we found a dose that worked. Been on six brands of pig thyroid since then, not many on the market today. My insurance hates it, says I dont need it, so I use the Good RX discount.
So your mid range in your T levels. Takes six weeks for T4 to make changes. An hour for T3, which is why I take Acella NP pig thyroid twice a day- its the active hormone and used quickly. Full dose in the AM is too much and them Im tired in the afternoon.
(Thyroid and lyme symptoms are similar.)
My anziety was from:
1) hypo thyroid
2) lyme
3) high AM cortisol from stress...from lyme and everyday modern life (holy basil helped with this)
My anziety is now managed at best, I have Hashimoto which is known to increase anziety even in people with a properly treated thyroid.
Big note: I spent years analyzing my diet and what food does to my body, its a slow process. Eliminating Glutan and a few other foods improved one sky high thyroid antibody and fully dissolved a ten year known thyroid nodule (regular imaging) in three months.
