Like many others here, I avoid immune-boosting herbs and stick to immune-modulating herbs instead. Taking elderberry (in the form of a concentrated medicinal syrup) seems to cause some auto-inflammatory symptoms for me.
In my garden I have a giant, productive elderberry bush, laden with ripe elderberries. I'm trying to figure out what to do with them. I don't plan to make them into medicinal syrup, but some people eat them baked into muffins or pancakes, or dry them and use them as one might use dried cranberries. Does anyone have any sense of how many elderberries one would have to consume to equal a dose of the concentrated syrup?
The birds and squirrels will be happy to eat them for me, but I'd like to use a few, if anyone has some ideas.
