Oxymatrine for Babesia

Ive found it hard to find good literature on babesia, it’s mechanism, and the mechanism of drugs that work against it.

I did turn up some sources that seemed to present the picture that babesia shifts the immune system response towards Th2 but that the infection is cleared without problem typically in Th1 competent immune systems.

Oxymatrine is a drug I haven’t seen talked about on here like it is Rising Phoenix for viral infections. It does, however, shift towards a Th1 response and I’m curious if anyone has used it.

I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis a few years ago and have a ‘technical’ autoimmune condition in which it’s typically contraindicated but thinking about giving a low dose a go for a while after getting my CD4/CD8/NK function checked.


There were other people on Rising Phoenix that ventured out to using interferon as well which, theoretically, sounds like a decent way to stimulate an immune response against intracellular pathogens such as babesia. Available from RU easily although I’m not quite that desperate yet

i wonder if it is the same scenario as buhner talks about with astragalus and chronic lyme

astragalus is another herb that increases TH1 and reduces TH2 activity ( Note - oximatrine is actually a herbal extract too) - and buhner says that in Chronic Lyme Astragalus can ( not for everyone - but in general ) worsen symptoms because Lyme, once chronic causes increased TH1 reactions.
