welcome Deborah
i don't know where you are in the world - but many of us find it is very difficult to get proper treatment from the conventional medical establishment in many / most countries. i have tried 3 separate highly regarded conventional infectious disease doctors myself with very little success
many of us are going the self treatment route as a result
however, it is a complex disease so if you are going to self treat i would encourage you to do a good deal of reading around the subject
Buhner's book - healing lyme second edition - mentioned above is excellent - and focusses on herbal treatments.
another highly recommended book is by a LLMD - Richard Horowitz " how can i get better" - which is also excellent - but focussed on more pharmaceutical approaches - antibiotics
there is also a very good grounding in diagnosis and treatment of lyme and coinfections in Dr Burrascano's ILADS treatment guidelines - which are available free to download here
http://www.lymenet.org/burrguide200810.pdfkeep in mind that for many people it is not just a case of popping a bunch of pills or potions and being cured - things like
-diet
-lifestyle
-stress management
-sleep
can be equally important to help your body fight the infection and recover
its a lot to take in - but people here are knowledgeable and helpful so please do ask questions
