First, the pros:
* If and when the core LDI dose is found, the impact can be a dramatic and overnight improvement in symptoms
* The treatment is very simple, consisting of water and antigens squirted under the tongue every seven weeks
* The treatment is relatively inexpensive
* Several stories have been shared by Lyme patients who couldn't get better from any other treatment but finally achieved permanent symptom resolution from LDI
* It makes sense to desensitize the immune system if DNA fragments are lodged in tissues continuing to provoke the immune system even after the bacteria has been long dead
* Borrelia does most of its damage by manipulating its host's immune system to break down host tissues for itself to feed on. It makes sense to jam its inflammatory pathways, since these immune pathways are not acting to kill it, but are acting to feed it.
Second, the cons:
* LDI has not been studied. It shares similarities with sublingual immunotherapy, which has been studied to a point.
* From studies of sublingual immunotherapy, one may surmise that it works better on a Th2 type immune reactivity. One may surmise this could also be true of LDI. This could mean it only works well with a subset of patients who have a certain immune profile.
* From studies of MCAS patients, it is known they have more mast cells in their oral mucosa. Thus one may surmise it is possible their oral mucosa could be over-reactive to sublingual LDI doses. If true, it would explain the horror stories about
LDI responses that have been privately shared many times by MCAS patients and the mothers of MCAS patients.
* LDI flares can, in some cases, become like vaccine bad reactions, according to some accounts that are out there.
* Herbs or antibiotics in conjunction with LDI will eventually cause a previously helpful core LDI dose to stop helping. Then the dose will help again after it is made stronger. But once the strength gets up to 6c, if a patient is not having a response at 6c, most patients will not respond after that to 5c, 4c, etc.
