Blood clots ???

Hey guys!

My mom fell a couple of weeks ago and got huge bruises all over her shins. She saw her doctor over a week later. She said the doctor barely even looked at it but sent her for a bunch of xrays.

One leg is still sore and has a large, swollen knot in it. She said it also feels feverish to her. I didn’t feel any fever in it, but the knot may have felt a little warmer than the other part.

How are blood clots diagnosed?

Do blood clots show up on xrays?

I think she'd need an ultrasound to find blood clots.

That said, I think that blood clots are common under large bruises and are a normal part of the healing process. I had a bunch of them on my legs beneath bruises from random bumps when I was on blood-thinning herbs, and was told they were not a concern. It's when blood clots are in the deep veins of the legs that they pose risks - cutting off blood flow to the limb, traveling to the heart/lungs/brain, etc. Pain deep in the back of the leg or behind the knee, however, warranted ultrasounds. Shin-area clots might not be a concern.

It's possible the swelling is from a fracture in the shin bone, but I suppose that would have shown up on the x-ray.

Yes it’s diagnosed via ultrasound they can do multiple Depths with that.

I’ve had a clot in one of my legs, and I also have a clotting gene found out from 23me, so that explains why.

A clot in your leg well actually make the whole muscle length swell up, And it will be hard to try to push in your skin. It is certainly different than an impact injury .

When you have a clot that actually requires some medical intervention, blood thinning prescriptions in pill form and or injections are given. My abdomen area look like I got hit by a shotgun from self administering 10 injections just under the skin in that area a day for two weeks. It sucked to do that.
