So I guess this film's topic might be old news to many of us, but maybe it will help in explaining this disease to others.

I found the documentary "Under our skin" to be really helpful in that regard.

i would be interested to see it - but have to say i have some mixed feelings about these films

raising awareness is needed and a good aim

but in practice - it seems to me that people in the "real world" ( by which i mean those people who are still busy getting on with their lives and have no involvement with chronic lyme etc) - on the whole do not seem interested in the topic -
- they either do not seem to see it as relevant to them - ( it never is until it happens to you )
or
- they don't want to think about the possibility that a walk in the woods or a picnic - or playing with their pet cat, could make them or their kids sick for life with a mysterious hard to treat disease - and actively focus their attention elsewhere

the result is that these things can then become a kind of preaching to the converted - and charging them for the privilege.

i know it costs money to make a film and i don't expect people to do it for nothing - and i am grateful to Rainy for highlighting it - but i just see something a bit out of kilter with the reality if the aim is to raise awareness .

not meant to be negative - just an observation

i guess it is still useful in the sense that people with lyme can direct loved ones etc to some of these films that then help their relatives and friends understand it better - i have done that myself - so perhaps i have answered my own question - and this is just how raising awareness works.

Thank you and I agree with what you're saying. I should add that I have no affiliation with the film.

I don't know the finances of making a film so I'm not sure if it's just to cover the cost or to make a profit.

You definitely raise such a good point, which is something that has concerned me in the past when it comes to a slightly different topic: supplements and herbal brands for Lyme.

Or more broadly: the finances in selling things in relationship to a disease like Lyme.

Just to give an example, there are some companies that target Lyme patients with patented herbal extracts or supplements.

Now I'm not saying that they are all bad, but when I see a popular Lyme herb being remade into some "special" version (for example "extra pure") that's supposed to be better and then also happened to be promoted by some Lyme practitioner, which happens to be the owner of that same company, and is also about double the price of the "regular version", it just rubs me the wrong way.

Now obviously there are also Lyme practitioners who recommend specific brands for all the right reasons, but sometimes I'm a bit skeptical.

I slightly rememberfew years ago “under our skin “ was supposed to be on public television? But it got pulled or something ,,and was never on???

Anyway like most here, I seen it free on YouTube. Personally it’s not something I’d like to show other people, I think it’s way over emotionally /dramatic.. So much, it might take away the realness / believability for some viewers who might just roll their eyes instead.

Might be more effective to present facts without all the drama since the facts alone are bad enough.

As far as the new movie goes / - no one but limies totally absorbed in lyme are gonna pay to watch it.

So I was thinking like you guys that only lymies snd those they coerce watch these things. But then I remembered, while my friends don’t usually pay to go to a theater to watch documentaries, they often watch random ones on Netflix. Sometimes the documentaries end up in netlfix’s top ten.

I watched one on Indian matchmaking but that was more like reality tv dating show. But my friends actually just casually watch random documentaries. So maybe they’d see it there?

Good point, I've watched some random shows before just because some random site suggested it when looking up similar shows.
I always though that amazon has a good matching system for documentaries, they probably base it on related sales.
It might actually even have said "other customers bought".

I would like to add a trigger warning to this trailer for anyone who may be struggling mentally in regards to the onset of their illness and the trauma that may surround that etc..

Anywho… this does look well done.

Here is a chronicle that a young husband recorded of his wife's battle against lyme. It is grueling at times. @Girlie posted it here half a year ago, but for some reason it didn't get much attention. Very gripping. I would add a trigger warning as well, but it ends up very nicely.

Yes. I saw that one. It was super intense. The thing that stood out to me the most was HOW she got well. It wasn’t just from abx treatment. At first, she improved. Then after a few weeks, symptoms all came back. The doctor then decided to try Cholestyramine (CSM). The CSM was what got her symptom free.

I can’t remember if it was said in the documentary or if Girlie said something about it, but there was mold exposure involved. It may have been at a college. I can’t remember. Unfortunately, the mold part was barely mentioned. The Lyme dx and abx were the main factors highlighted. BUT it was the CSM that removed the symptoms.

Anytime I see people come on here with severe symptoms - tremors, seizures, bedridden - I am compelled to ask probing questions about mold. Mold alone can definitely cause those types of symptoms. Mold with Lyme and/or bartonella can cause a much more severe picture of symptoms than Lyme and/or bartonella alone.

People just really don’t want to hear anything about mold, because it can be so devastating financially and logistically, if it’s in your current home.

I remember seeing a Lyme documentary on national TV on some show like 20/20 or 60 Minutes. It must have been in the 80’s or 90’s. That was how I learned that Lyme was associated with a tick bite and a bullseye rash.

I remember feeling confused and uneasy after watching the documentary. I remember a man who was middle aged being interviewed, and he was from California. I think he either had Lyme or thought he had Lyme but either doctors didn’t believe him or he was denied treatment.

Does anyone know of any documentaries in recent years that have aired on TV?

@WBF, did you learn that from the film? All I got was an ambiguous mention of something they added to her beverages. I surmised they were talking about something like Bentonite clay. I've never heard of Cholestyramine.

I found the video and rewatched it until I found the reference. They actually never identified the Cholestyramine by name. They called it a powder that binds toxins. From the description and picture, I knew it was CSM. It starts at 1:06:05. Black Mold is mentioned at 1:06:24.

Cholestyramine is part of the Shoemaker protocol for Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome (CIRS). It is an old cholesterol drug and is a bile sequestrant. It’s a very potent binder, as it binds to toxins as they are released in the bile, preventing them from getting recirculated back into the bloodstream via the hepatic loop.

I haven’t watched the film, but I did read the article linked above and the previous article linked there and visited her website. According to her website, she’s been treating 6+ months and is doing Buhner and detox. She’s getting treatment in Roswell, GA, so I guess she no longer lives in NY.

One Takeaway:

She describes herself as “a Black woman of Puerto Rican descent.” For some reason, I subconsciously thought of Lyme as a white people’s disease. Not sure why, but I did. It kind of surprised me to hear of a black/Latina with Lyme.

it does help some people - with lyme as well as mold - as it seems some people have biotoxin illness from the toxins produced by lyme as well as the infection itself

one caution though - it seems - because its an bile sequestrant - its generally thought to be both innert and not absorbed into the body.

on closer inspection neither of these things is entirely true and some people seem to have adverse reactions to it as a result

The reactions to Cholestyramine are typically constipation and exacerbation of symptoms, especially in those with active Lyme or MARCONS. Because the drug binds so well, it can often create an avalanche effect where the body begins to dump toxins out of tissues and organs as the drug reduces the toxin load. I experienced this in dramatic fashion. Doctors like Neil Nathan recommend micro-dosing for very sensitive folks.

It will likely cause mineral depletions if taken long-term, so it would probably be beneficial to supplement vitamins and minerals while taking it (several hours apart).

One other issue is the standard prescription is loaded with sugar or sugar-free substitutes and junk. A dose is 9g and only 4g are Cholestyramine. The pure powder can be obtained from compounding pharmacies for a pretty penny. Of course, one jar might be all you need to get some real benefit and reduce the toxin load to a level where your body can make headway and heal. People with Candida, SIBO, C. diff, or chemical sensitivities would be wise to get the pure Cholestyramine.

Could be a key for those who have treated infections long enough and still are symptomatic.
