Does Ceftin/cefuroxime treat neuroborreliosis?

Does Ceftin/cefuroxime treat neuroborreliosis? Has it helped with any neuropathy symptoms and does it pass blood brain barrier?

I wouldn’t just take Ceftin alone for chronic Lyme treatment.
Should be paired with at least one more antibiotic.

For brain/head stuff you could pair minocycline with the Ceftin.

it does cross the BBB

but the extent to which it does so seems to vary from individual to individual and on teh condition of the BBB itself ( more permeable in some brain infections that effect the meninges )

in this study useful levels were achieved with IV 1.5g 4x daily
oral doses and absorption will be much less

its a relatively mild beta lactam group antibiotic and not typically used as monotherapy in chronic lyme as typically several antibiotics with different mechanisms of action are used for chronic Lyme by LLMDs to try to defeat borrelia's sophisticated survival mechanisms
eg
deep tissue sequestration
persister cell formation
biofilm formation
cyst forms

Dr. A.C had me do two months of ceftin initially.

In her opinion iv ceftin is just as effective as oral in her patient base.

I did not notice any significant improvements.

Isn’t IV abx more effective than orals??

while i was on iv roceph and zith i did many microscopy smears in darkfield and brightfield showing some borrelia had encysted but many were floating still moving and unfazed by abx presence in blood stream...its anti inflammatory properties was probably the best aspect it had to offer ...its not the end all or a cure just a bigger bandaid on a gushing wound....

But better penetration to the brain.
For severe cases, DrJ recommends IV
He said he would recommend it for more patients, but it’s not practical.

I know IV abx saved my husbands life. Orals weren’t touching a brutal infection he had.

Girlie, how long was your husband on IV abx? Did you get insurance to cover it?

Sorry - I didn’t give enough info.

My husband had a random infection (nothing to do with Lyme) many years ago.
His forearm swelled up - looked like a football, and he was in excruciating pain.

He went to emergency - they took a felt pen and drew around the margins and gave him some oral abx.
The next morning - the swollen area was larger, and moving up towards his shoulder.

He went to his Dr and the doc sent him to the ER and said he needed IV abx now!

Within a few hours of the first IV, the swelling was starting to subside.

My doctor uses double dose oral Ceftin for Neuro, along with 2 or 3 more antibiotics. I have most definitely had neuro herxes and I know of people being treated by him who have recovered from it or are at least significantly improved.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a practitioner who treats holistically in Southern California? I’m on Medicare now and need help with chronic Lyme
