My dr wants me to take Daraprim for toxoplasmosis. I have babesia as well. I’ve been trying to get used to it over the past couple of weeks so haven’t been taking it consistently.

The biggest issue is the daraprim is causing me insomnia. Even taking it in the morning and taking 3.5 Unisoms, still not sleeping well. Seemed to do ok though on the first day of taking it; that’s why I’ve waited a few days and then start again.

Question: is it ok to pulse daraprim to get used to it and manage the insomnia that way?

Also, it’s making me shaky and a nervous feeling. Is that typical of a herx? I’ve never experienced this before.

everyone is different - but everything that gives me herx like reactions causes some degree of insomnia also

in my case i believe its a side effect of killing bartonella - which i consider to be my most dominant infection

its frustrating because for me getting good sleep correlates well with functioning better and moving forward in health - and anything that detracts from sleep also seems to detract from my overall function through the day

i have had to manage this by starting on low tolerable doses and gradually increasing doses - over time

can you do something similar with the daraprim

I pulsed daraprim.
(Dr J’s protocols are all pulsed)

I took it one week on and 3 weeks off.
I think the week on was 5 days (Mon-Fri)

But it was taken with other abx at the same time.

I didn't take daraprim, but I've had similar reactions to other anti-folates (proguanil) and blood tests showed that my folate was too low.

Toxoplasma is related to malaria and babesia, so the usual babesia meds are typically used. Also valproate may be an option if you can't tolerate anti-folates, but that's got a different set of side effects.

Dr J prescribed Leucovorin to be taken with the other abx
(Pharma) Daraprim/Dapsone

Leucovorin is higher dose folate

I think my pills were 5 mg each

Thanks for all the responses.

Leucovorin Is part of my compounded daraprim, so I am taking that as well.

The symptoms have cleared (I took a liver supplement and lemon water) and I was able to nap. I’ll probably take a couple days off and try again with pinella that I just ordered and see if it helps.

Otherwise will stop it until I talk to my dr again.

I think dr J had me pulse daraprim. It broke my biofilm, broke out in in like things that felt like mosquito bites with a pin center.
