Homemade Solomon seal tincture taking forever. (Edit: success)

Oh, for those not knowing what I was using this for. So far out of using almost every topical solution possible this has the best healing properties for muscles and tendons out of anything I’ve ever used. That is the store-bought stuff which is $12-$20 for a 1 ounce tincture bottle.

Since it grows in my backyard, yes this isThe real Solomon seal not false Solomon seal, I thought I would make my own.

Garzie , I bought some cotton cheese cloth but that looks to be pretty open so I might just use white cotton T-shirt that was too small.

In what few online tutorials there are about making tinctures they never mention a price but that makes sense if you want to get the remaining last 10- 20 percent out of the root.

I have a workshop bench vise no press though. I might just try a couple different size metal vegetable cans one that barely sits inside the other. Put the soaked chopped root In the bottom can, using the inner can for the press With a pipe pushing down on it with my weight - against a cement slab floor.

this is the rig i knocked up initially to press my tinctures
mainly from bits of wood and scrap metal i had lying around

some 12mm allthread and nuts from ebay
a piece of stainless 75mm dia tube from ebay

total cost was under $20 and it worked for me for around a year before i found myself doing so much tincture a better press was in order

maybe its good for some inspiration

the first one will work OK - and i would probably have used a g clamp if i had had my tools around at the time ( were in storage ) but will have a tendency for the end of the g-clamp to slide off centre on teh puck - and upend it - some kind of cantering device would solve this - similar to that little square block with a bolt in it in my picture

i looked at the second one - but felt that the press itself was too flimsy to any serious pressure

my hydraulic 6 ton shop press is overkill but was only $50ish on a deal and is massively robust - uses the same steel tube and wooden pucks -

PUt the whole concoction in a blender and blend thoroughly. That will accelerate the process

I think that would turn it more into “veggie shake” versus thin liquid that soaks in.

At that point separating the smaller solids /particles from the pure liquid might be more difficult.

Not sure if my blender can blend very fine, but I'll experiment with it, since this would also eliminate the need to press it (cant press something thats fine).

This cheese cloth I have is pretty "open" too. If that doesn't filter sufficiently, I'll buy a cheap but high tread count white non-dyed cotton pillow case. Or- stop at a fabric place and just get one square yard or meter of similar material.

Well I still have the stuff soaking in the jars I sucked some of it out off the top with an eyedropper this week and used it in my remaining problem areas.

even though it is mostly clear and not amber, it does seem to work effectively. So it’ll be interesting to see how the problem areas are 3 to 4 months from now.

I have about eight more inches of root that I had in a container in the refrigerator.

So I might just try to dry this root but I’ve not tried that before. Im not quite sure how you get a root to dry without it getting moldy.

Google says cut it up into smaller pieces and put it in the oven on very low for 6 to 8 hours.

I’m sure I could make some sort of a tinfoil lined hotbox and set it in the sun on a warm day

Well even though the tincture is pretty clear it does have a different smell and somewhat stickyness to it before the top dries on my skin vs just straight 151 Ever clear on my skin.

I started experimenting with the retail available Solomon seal tincture taken internally. Then I stopped that when I experienced Gut issues digesting meat and fats, that post I made a while ago. I was eating a lot more meat then but at the same time I introduced Solomon seal into my digestive tract so was that part of the problem I had?

More trials are needed to get a good solid opinion on internal use for body tissue healing/ repair. I’m not going to try that till my gut is good again though.

For specific areas that are not very deep, like leg , arm and shoulder tendons , and low back,I still think it works better externally , or at least is more noticeable and very quick. The fact that it works so fast used externally, might contribute to me being somewhat biased in that form of use.

So for the time being I will continue to use it externally.

The initial stickiness only lasts a minute before the stuff soaks in really good, and the 151 Everclear did not burn my skin at all. And in very little time your skin is dry and there is no noticeable smell so you can put clothes on right away and nobody’s gonna smell it. What little initial smell there is - goes away very fast, and is not unpleasant anyway.

My experience now tells me that this is the most effective tissue healing supplement I’ve ever used. And it’s easy to use. Believe me, I’ve used many.

Before this, my go to was rather time consuming, as it was the retail available Penetrex cream topped with DMSO to help drive it in.That is certainly a good combination but Solomon seal seems to be even better. I don’t know why this isn’t more widely known.

I made a “fixing my foot” post yesterday as well. I use DMSO and Penetrex all over my left lower leg several times a week for about six months- it helped, but the Solomon seal helped a lot quicker.

I have basically abused my foot for the last five days without orthotics. Without lengthy details I will just say my foot would normally be sore waking in the morning after all this,....but it isn’t.

This may be a little premature judging this tincture for tissue healing purposes. maybe I’m just having some streak of good luck? I don’t know. Or ,....yes , it might just work that good. Time will tell.
