Flagyl has been so hard

I take flagyl only 2 days out of 3 weeks, and it hits so hard. It usually takes me a week to recover from it. I detox all the time but it still is brutal. How should I avoid this impending doom? Is this a herx or side effect?

It’s a herx, flagyl rocked me in the beginning and still does hit me somewhat hard nowadays but it is much more tolerable, seeing the progress, understanding the improvement, and realizing that the drug is easier over time is a good signal that it’s herxing. But it’s breaking up the cyst form of the disease, very important and effective med. it could be side effects but a herx seems more likely to me if you’re only taking it for 2 days periods, but you’d have to dig deeper to see if it’s side effects.

Many of the meds we take for Lyme and co have a ridiculous amount of possible side effects, if you think you’re having something heart related or things are becoming to overwhelming with a med call and talk to them about it. They can help you identify if you think it could be a side effect. Tindamax is another option instead of flagyl. Herxing can happen not only on the day you take a specific med but it can carry on longer. There have been meds I’ve taken and noticed reactions to the same day and those same symptoms continued to happen everytime I took that said drug. So in that instance I was able to tell that drug was causing side effects, not herxing.

It’s even possible to be herxing and having a side effect from the same med, it’s all a messy area.

I finished the introduction part and started the Babesia protocol this week. I think I've improved a bit. Im playing basketball 1-2 hours every other day. Last year I was bedridden. But still some days I feel as sick as I did last year so its weird. But those days are when I get hit hard with Flagyl or just the protocol itself. I went to a wedding this weekend which I haven't been able to for 2 years. My situation is weird I can play basketball for a couple hours, but I can't go inside a Walgreens and stand for more than 5 minutes without feeling like passing out. I still have brain fog, depersonalization, pots hypoglycemia which are my main issues and I haven't felt much improvement in them individually. Just overall I think from when I started I do feel a bit better SOME days not all

i have heard Tinidazole can be a bit milder / easier to take

but i don't know what the LLMD's views on it in terms of being as effective as Flagyl
they are sister drugs in the same family so i would have hoped they are much the same in terms of cyst busting effects

Flagyl is sometimes used for SIBO. From my understanding Xifaxan can cause die off even though it works mostly in the small intestine. If one feels typical herx symptoms on the days taking Flagyl and in the days after then I think it's reasonable to hypothesize die off could be at play.

This could explain how even people not treating Lyme/Co could experience these symptoms when taking Flagyl. I do understand the frustration between not being able to differentiate between herx and side effects. I've never found a way to be confident in my assessment of that conundrum. I'd just say after years and years of illness you can see the pattern that develops that can be attributed to herx/flare.
